What are the chances of semi-auto AK variants ever becoming reclassified in Canada?

Unless you mean reclassified as in to "prohibited with no grandfathering," then I would say that it the P(AK reclassified | anything good) <<<<<<<<< 1.
Sorry, but there would need to be a lot of changes to public perception and the law before this stands any chance. A full repeal of the F.A. would be a good start. I guess it might be possible that if the majority of current firearms law was repealed and replaced, the new laws might (un)intentionally change the classification of the AK, but I'm not holding my breath.
If we had had successive left leaning Liberal governments, or god forbid, an NDP majority federal gov't, those rifles would be prohib too!

We already have semi-automatic rifles in 7.62x39... even ones that look almost like AKs. It makes no sense that AK variants are not classified as restricted.
I agree with you about repealing the FA being the best chance at getting them reclassified.
