AK legality

Better yet we allow ONE type of AK variant in as non restricted .. Everything else is prohib. Now if these actions are so inherently dangerous why has there been no crime (that I've seen) been committed with valmets .. That right there would be cause for an appeal if someone could spearhead it with thier time and likely a fair ammount of money

Ak 47 is to easy to remember politicians are to busy to look into what ak 47 is.

You're right. Politician hears AK47 they instantly picture a Taliban or Mujahideen fighter running around Ontario suburbs.

I can't believe this is the amount of ignorance we are fighting.

The chences of this aren't pretty much zero, they ARE zero.

No singular weapon is more universally known throughout the entire world than the AK-47. It is the ubiquitous "bad guy" weapon seen in the hands of al-Qaeda fighters, communist Chinese and Russians, and genocidal African child soldier armies. Its guilt by association is as strongly memorable as its physical appearance with that huge banana magazine, vented handguard, and prominent gas block/tube/sight combo. It has been labeled by antis as a weapon of mass destruction and is the most convenient scapegoat for criminality and conflict the globe over, having been banned in one form or another countless times in countless nations.

What politician would dare risk his cushy six-figure salary career to bring this horrendous death machine back to "the streets"? Absolutely none. It would be political suicide to even suggest such an idea because as you've seen in the preceding paragraph, it is all too easy to vilify it and play on emotion versus logic. The antis are very good at that, and they know that emotion will always trump logic in a large percentage of the population.

I actually think the Israeli Galil could become Non-Restricted even with just minor pushing on the part of us the firearms buying public, Why? well I will tell you, first off its variant of Valmet yeah yeah I know not excatly the 78 or whatever the Liberal decided to keep off the prohibited list but its a legitimate variant. That's the key the liberal's deicied that the Valmet was not so bad so its been on the books as non restricted for the past 15 years so if anything untooward happened with one of the newly non restricted Galil's, Toew in mouth and Harper could scream at the top of there lungs we did't do nothing, we just passed an order in council that corrected the Liberal's order in council that excempted the Finnish Valmet and not the Israeli Galil, guess what it's true. And unfortunatly thats what our good old Politicians look for is political cover if something goes sideways. Also the Conservatives look their best when they stick up for Israel and all they would be doing would be clearing up some poorly written laws at the same time, I am sure it would be super minor to IWI but every buck counts. So hopefully some one can get IWI or north sylvia pointing this out. This would be some good common sense incrementalism.

It's lame all right, you have no choice but to be happy with the VZ 58. It's the only way to fill that AK void.

It took me about a decade to make peace with the fact of never, ever having the chance to own a SVD Dragunov (and all it variants), Romanian PSL, and Zastava M76... damn it :(

Which is odd. They are purpose built semi-auto sniper...ish rifles. AFAIK can't be modified for rock'n'roll. Guilty by association I suppose.

AK and VZ/CZ are not the same and never will be i can do things with ak that cant be done with a vz/cz

What? Fill it with mud and run it over with a truck? The VZ/CZ does everything an AK does and is more than likely a more accurate rifle as well. I have not tested accuracy personally between the two, but that seems to be the general consensus (at arfcom and such).

Prior to Sandy Hook, there was talk about doing away with the bulk of the prohibited classification category as a cost saving measure. The result would be lumping all semi-auto firearms on that list into the restricted category, with full autos remaining unobtainium. Of course, that talk faded away pretty quick after Sandy Hook. That said, the recomendation was given to Harper and is still out there; it has yet to be withdrawn by the government's firearms advisory committee.

However, the firearms advisory committee was given a shake up a couple months back, so we'll see if the new one comes out with the same recomendations.

im more in the systema mind set and i know the AK has proven it self ive heard nothing of the VZ/CZ the major differences are safety, mag release, the fact that the bolt locks open i do like the fact it can use stripper clips just like the m14,m1a,m305 you can use it to fill mags and top them off. as for accuracy they do the job they are not ment to be 1 moa guns but battle rifles they can both handle CBQ ranges to 300 yards no problem hitting a man sized target

and i'll tell you that this inaccurate thing with the ak most who say that have a US built gun. when the rivits are not put in right this can make the frnt trunnion e off from one side or the other making the barrel do the same if the sights are canted there is a good chance that the barrel is not straight and the trunnion is also not straight most compays over there do not know how to make a ak thats why people buy up the saiga rifles when they can

I'd take a good AK over a Vz58.

In standard form I prefer the AK stock, grip, mag release and forend.

I also think the AK is that much more rugged, is available in vastly more configurations, is still being improved apon at the major factory level {see AK-12, AK-107 etc} and is much easier to produce, meaning there's a hell of a lot more of them out there.

That said, the Vz58 is a good gun and close enough for this gentleman.

This really reminds me of the thread i created a few weeks ago about wanting to change laws.

Reading the comments of everyone here, you're all saying by default "It'll never happen. No chance."

Stop saying this please. If you want something changed, go for it, even if it looks bleak.
Stop accepting the current status.
