Ergonomics on the Kalashnikovs are actually good. Some can be quite accurate. As far as automatic capability goes, if our civilian police can have it then so should other civilians. The rifles function well even when treated badly. They would be good for our Canadian Rangers.
I've seen that gun gripes episode where they went head to head AR vs AK.. At 440yds, 1x red dot, they were getting the same groups as an AR - good enough to take down a man-sized target, without bullets keyholing, which debunks the 200yd myth. They used match ammo but they tested it against comblock milsurp and didn't get a difference in groups. For me it would mostly be the historical significance (my dad and several uncles/cousins were issued those while in service), along with my appreciation of the effectiveness and reliability of the platform.
