It's not a precision marksman's tool, but it's perfect in its design - deliver a volume of fire in the general vicinity of what you want to hit with every pull of the trigger, regardless of the conditions, while being easy to carry. That's what an assault rifle is supposed to do. Give it to a 9yrold as-is and he'll start slaughtering people from the wrong tribe without worrying about maintenance or field conditions. Deck it out with a match barrel and nice sights and a professional will be able to deal with terrorists and insurgents, swiftly. Here in North America, many of us laugh at it and its loose tolerances, but in the only clash of well-trained armies where one was decked out with M16's and the other with AK's, you know which side got their asses handed to them. I'd still take the AK as my SHTF gun of choice.
