AK marketing propoganda

i dont see much propogabda here the ak is still on top as a battle rifle and the stpetsnaz really know how to use it to its fullest. how ever its not water proof its lose tolerances would make that a no go but those lose tolerances help with dirt

the ak's designer mikhail kalashnikov turned 93 yesterday

It was just a documentary with a positive spin. Thanks for posting it up. Yes, the AK is still a highly relevant firearm. It's not a precision marksman's tool, but it's perfect in its design - deliver a volume of fire in the general vicinity of what you want to hit with every pull of the trigger, regardless of the conditions, while being easy to carry. That's what an assault rifle is supposed to do. Give it to a 9yrold as-is and he'll start slaughtering people from the wrong tribe without worrying about maintenance or field conditions. Deck it out with a match barrel and nice sights and a professional will be able to deal with terrorists and insurgents, swiftly. Here in North America, many of us laugh at it and its loose tolerances, but in the only clash of well-trained armies where one was decked out with M16's and the other with AK's, you know which side got their asses handed to them. I'd still take the AK as my SHTF gun of choice.

Sure, a documentary by a state run news organization. They described the AK as highly accurate too but that could be true for someone with years of training with it.

True of any firearm. At its worst, it can deliver a volume of fire in the general direction of what you're shooting at, which is exactly what an assault rifle is supposed to do. That is why we all switched to smaller cartridges, lighter weight, higher capacity.

you only have to hit say a 12" target on a unarmoured opponent.

if i had to chose between a ak and a ar type rifle it be the ak i know with most surplus you can get atleast 6" at 100 yards

i forget where i seen it but i remember seeing a documentary and these african's had a ak with a barrel tht was bent a good 90 degrees they bent it back with 2 rocks one acting as a anvil and one as a hammer dont know how well it shot but it shot after that

most modern manufacture AKs are capable of keep up with the milspec/rack grade AR's as far as accuracy goes.

generally less picky with ammo, and due to a number of reasons they are a more reliable mud gun.
but they will still jam, and do still need cleaning.

AK-not as reliable as you think
AR-not as accurate as you think
AK-not as inaccurate as you think
AR-not as unreliable as you think
saw that on a firearms course wall somewhere back in the day (Fort Sam Houston maybe?)

AR syestem is unreliable it needs to be kept claen. a ak you can shoot surplus ammo in let it sit for a month kick the bolt open load a mag and shoot it

ive shot enough of both(in the US both semi and full auto) to know with one i like better the harder hitting decently accurate russian designed ak. some of the american made ak's are not that great through the receivers have alot of problems if you have too much play with the bolt in the receiver or not enough or a real loose mag well your not going to have the 100% reliabbility

And that's why they invented the HK 416 its the best of both worlds, its a piston operated ar15, both very accurate( which has more to do with precise german engineering then anything els )and very reliable but also quite expensive but you do get what you pay for. I'm not saying one is better then the other just saying they are both good in their own way, and that once again the Germans perfected another weapon system (the bolt action Mauser 98 being the other one) now they just need to invent a better cartridge to go with it.

Also it's nice to see a news organization that doesn't demonize Ak 47s and assault rifles in general

I honestly think the AR vs AK thing is the biggest load of internet BS

this has been around sice it was no longer a secret and the m16 came out witch is a AR design with a few changes way before the internet.

i can tell you no matter what type of ar it is it will have a malfunction at some point a ak is said to only go click and not bang if it runs out of ammo (or takes a bullet or shrapnel)

Sure my Russian AK did that until it broke

Gas or piston? How many rounds a month? Make? Anything else?

Gas, **** knows I never kept a log book, Have shot a mixture of RRA, Colt and NEA over the last couple years. My RRA has the highest round count. Pat Rodgers has already documented what a quality AR can do. Bragging my gun has x round count is just an online pissing contest. Who cares. I'd trust my life in the AR system if it came to it.

Izhmash has made many other weapons alongside the AK.

Excellent weapons tested in the same way. Armrus when they were arround 7 or so years ago carried many of their products. I wish one of the importers would import Izmash products again. They are excellent better than many on the market and worth the extra $$.

For what its worth... I just got back from cambodia where I shot both a 1952 Russian Ishevsk AK47 and a 70s era M16A1. Neither had been cleaned in forever. The AK jammed 5 times, the AR didnt jam at all. Overall, I prefer the CZ to the AK anyways. Simpler, lighter... That said, I would also like to get my first AR soon... Guns are like boobies. Can a guy really discriminate against any of em?
