AK47 legality

Since no one else has said it yet (edit: ah, Scarecrow just beat me to it), don't forget the Valmet Hunter and M78 ... these guns are made in Finland, and are essentially AK type rifles exempted from the prohibition because ... well, because the laws don't make any sense and the people who make them are hypocritical asshats.

Here are one of each for sale in the exchange section (if you can't follow this link it's because you need to apply for membership in the Exchange Forum group - free and easy): http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62948

Yeah, they're expensive, but they're non-restricted!

If those are way too expensive for you, I highly recommend the VZ-58S or CZ-858-2 ... here's my VZ-58S:

AK-like enough for you? This one is restricted (legal for range use only) ... the CZ-858-2 has a longer barrel that makes it non-restricted (legal for hunting, or general blasting anywhere safe and legal to fire a gun)!

Yea....gee....you may be on to something there. I mean, what elese WOULD people want with .303 ammo? Oh hold on.....maybe there useing it in one of thoes bolt-action milsurp rifles that turn up every blue moon....what are they called again? Oh yea....LEE-ENFIELDS!!!!!!!! Cause there only one of the most popular firearms in the country!

LOL ......Lee enfields ? yah sure thats gotta be it, (must be some kind of bolt action speed shooting competition) and really now if peeps need ammo for hunting with their .303 they can buy it at most stores in stock (small amounts). "Eyes rolling"

fu*k AK-47's...........why get one, when you can get an AR-15.

Picture it the other way...lets say everybody owned AK-47's, but nobody could get an AR-15 because they were prohibited. I dont know about you, but I'd much rather own an AR-15 A3 (M4) ....than a piece-a-#### AK-47.

Piertro, Pietro, Pietro,
Most all guns are good. Some user's are bad. Ak good, AR good, FN good, HK good.. and the list goes on and on. Be a happy comrade.:)

I guess yove never depended on your AR15 function durning/after a dust/sand storm or being full of mud,ice or water

hands down i will take the ak47 over the m16 and i did

years ago i ran 1 whole crate of norinco ammo 1400 rnds approx thru a CA akm not 1 jam ran 3 75rnd drums in a row gun was smokeing but still fireing (back before the mag bans)

my ar15 after approx 600rnds i needed to use the forward assist several times

Lets not turn this thread into AK vs AR. We all know each guns have their high and lows.

The bottom line is if you can own an AR-15 I don't see a reason that you can't own an AK.

Cause no one stocks up on ammo....

Though, I agree there's a few F/A floating around. Bren's, STEN's, AK's, ect. But I'd definantly say 99% of .303 ammo is sold for a bolt gun.

So, could someone build a valmet and register it as a valmet? If no, why not.

Just a friendly reminder.

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item#faq_cgn_general_rules

Intentional circumvention of the OIC prohibiting orders will be forbidden as it constitutes falsification of verification and registration documents. For example, advocation of using an AK receiver to build a Valmet M78 will not be allowed as its registration requires falsifiing the required document. A Valment M78 is a finnish made SAW based on the RPK design with certain proprietary features. What makes it a Valment is the fact that it is made in Finnland by Valmet. The fact that it is made in Soumi cannot be replicated. The same rationale will be applied to any future disucssion. Any decision by admin and mod will be final on such issues.

Ok no i am not new to the scene of guns i have owned them since i was like 6 the reason i ask is because according to the government i have been breaking the law for like 20 years well since C-68 but yeah so being that i have been breaking it i figure i might as well not pay attention to it lol so i finally decided i needed some new firearms so i broke down about a week before our new government and got my licence so now i am on the market for a new gun. I am buying a a-bolt mountain T-I for hunting but i want a play rifle i have always loved the AK47 for 2 reasons one like everyone says you can take a shat in it and it will still fire and the other i would love to own probably one of the most popularaly known firearms in the world. i would love an ar-15 as well i think they are a beautiful gun i didn't know they where legal i figured the ak was illegal as well but wanted a for sure. My friend has a CZ and a sks that i really like as well something i have thought about buying i guess i was looking for the input so i could make up my damn mind which i must say you guys are very infomative and i appreciate all the input i think i have found my new home this place is great. thanx everyone.

Your grammar skills are in dire need of improvement. :p

So let me get this straight: You're on the market for a new fun gun after being out of the market for many years, right? Because of this, and obviously not paying attention to the Firearms Act BS when it was going around over the last 11 or so years, you had no idea what the legalities on FA and CA firearms was.

You've come to the right place! Welcome aboard, Noob!

Ljungman, is that an AK stock on that VZ, or some homemade look-alike? If AK, easy fit, or work required?

It's an AK stock. There is some work required, but anyone with a drill and a dremel tool can do it.
