this AK56 needs a facelift. Thats Surplus Russian wood with Bakelite grips and mag. The wood is in great shape but I have a spare east German pebble stock - but no foregrips. the B&T were just a little too pricey for me.

It seems Midwest Industries has a railed handguard forr $125USD. ANY IMPORTERS IN CANADA?

Seriously. It makes me feel like that dog that sees people eating a roast beef at the table, and knowing you have to sit in the corner and onlt dream as you slobber.... :( I want an Ak dammit! :p

Me too!!! SO I did the unthinkable.... bought an Airsoft AK as a place holder - for now.... some day all OICs will be reversed! Step 2 in the 12 step rehab of Canadian Gun laws....

Satain ... I would love to get this out and actually shoot it! but the 223 AK was never designed to be that accurate (you had 30 chances to hit your target ;) My feeling is that the CSA may be of better quality. You've given me a few good ideas on that CSA project!

Ive got an underfolder that mag get a red-dot... check out this mount!

OH HO!!!
Under folders look sick!
Hopefully 1 day soon you will get an SATT to bring these bad girls to the range for a proper show ;)

My thoughts are the same. I mean, if made semi-only, pinned mags, etc, they are pretty much what we have now. (I don't want to say anything that will get some anti's reading this (I know they scour the web for any ammo for their "battle" against us evildoers lol), but I know there are obviously full-auot variants of the CZ's worldwide, and even a few in Canada brought back as war souvenirs/trophies... yet, the semi only version is ok for us to have).

If the AK's were non-restricted as semi only version, I'd pick one up right away. They aren't expensive, shoot cheap ammo, and last a few lifetimes!

AKs are available in semi-auto only under Saiga name...starting at $240 in 7.62x39 at Izhmash gates.
They also make them in .22LR and 9mm Luger (shorty). Both blow back action meaning not sharing AK design and should not be classified as a variant, yet they are prohibs and we cannot be trusted with.

"The law is an ass.."

fear of countries dumping them here when they upgrade to AK74, fear that everybody here running around with $50 AKs.

same for the FN/FAL.

AKs were non-restricted in the early 90s unlike the FN-FAL which has been restricted for a very long time (too easy to make full auto, too many army guys know how to operate one) and the AR15 which was restricted on and off (also too easy to make full auto).

The "too easy to make full auto" was one of the major classification criteria before the 90s gun laws which basically banned everything that looked millitary except for Valmet 78 (given to native by the federal goverment) and the AR15 (Dominion of Canada Rifle Association appealled and convinced the goverment that Canada's service rifle should be restricted, not prohibited).

Crazy laws and regulations written by crazy politicians and paid for by hard working Canadians. A classic case of "The law is an ass..." - look it up ;)

Conversion to full auto has nothing to do with it. Possibly in the case of the FAL but I doubt that as well.

i didnt say that was the only reason to prohib the FN , im saying one of the criteria was the fear of dumping of both the AK and FN brought them both to prohib .

btw, i was a weapons tech once many moons ago.

Basically were in "assault rifle" section of 1990 Gun Digest

Conversion to full auto has nothing to do with it. Possibly in the case of the FAL but I doubt that as well.

I was there and really know the story full well.

Remember that this is history not a statement of what is logical or sane.
Before the 90s, IMI Galil, Steyr Aug, Chinese AKs and RPKs, Hungarian AKs, Romanian AKs, millitary surplus G3 rifles (but not HK91) were non-restricted (even some very rare Famas F1, Enfield bullpup).
All millitary gun nuts had a 400$ AK with 30 round banana magazines and the rich guys would shot their for more expensive rifle with 30 round clips.

RCMP weapon main restricted status classification criteria was "can it be converted to a 'machine-gun' easily", I know this because I asked them numerous time what was their classification criteria since I wanted to buy a non-restricted FN FAL or an HK 91(there were around 10 variants of FALs available in Canada).

Many early semis were way too easy to modify
Believe it or not, but many early FN FAL imported in Canada and sold at Sears only needed an auto-sear to become full-auto.
The same is true for really old AR15s, in Canada that was a huge problem for the RCMP but in the US it was only an annoyance for the BATF since the gun were American made by American workers.

What can be learned from this
What I've learned from this episode is Anti gun will always want to ban all "assault rifles" and you can't negociate or compromise with them., join the NFA, the DCRA is a really good decent bunch of shooters, write to your MP, go talk with your MP and make sure that you vote for a pro-gun candidate (if possible).

Gun owners were screwed big time by the Conservatives in the 90s and it tooks 20 years to get rid of the LGR.
I hope that we can get the AR15 (our army's service rifle) non-restricted and see what can be done about prohibited "assault-rifles" and high capacity magazines.

So in short, all guns that were in the "assault rifle" section of the 1990 Gun Digest were prohibited except for Valmet 78 (natives), AR15 (DCRA-Canadian army) and a handful of other rifles such as the M14 (museum pieces ;) ).
The current non-restricted black guns like RA XCR-L, H&K SL8 and Binelli MR1 had not been designed and were not in the 1990 Gun Digest.

I hate arguing with another gun nut because we're on the same side!
