Akkar Churchill SxS

from what I could see from online pics, I thought the churchill maybe had slightly better fit and finish? but is very hard to tell accurately with pics alone

I would say fit and finish is better on the Churchill. I’ve handled Huglu/CZ sxs and I recall them being quite nice for the price point but I feel the Churchill is more refined and fitted with better walnut. Overall a nicer design and built better

Nice gun, I've never seen a present day one in the flesh (wood?). One of my granddads had a 1920s Best grade Churchill, I think, but it didn't come down to me.

Given I have to be my own purchasing agent, I know there's an Akar (Churchill) 520 SxS .410 waiting for me for Father's day. Haven't shot it yet but all the descriptions of the 12ga (above message string) quality of manufacture are bang on for the one I got. Beautiful walnut stock. Came with 5 chokes, Akar branded hard case. Can't wait to take her out to make some noise.

Happy father's day! Sounds better than a couple golf shirts and a pair of socks.

Thank you for the review and detailed pics, very helpful...couldn't find many reviews on this gun

I'm looking at a 28ga for grouse hunting, I can't claim to be a overly knowledgeable with shotguns, so how would this gun compare to a huglu 201A? I believe they both have steel receivers, which I'm told is a good thing, the huglu I can get with double triggers, which I read could be an advantage but not sure about my personal preferences as I've never fired a gun with double triggers

Some people love double triggers and some don't, I would recommend trying one out before buying.

thanks for the confirmation, there certainly isn't a lot of reviews online about the churchill, the huglu had some engraving that just looked poorly done to me, a poor attempt to make it look more expensive I guess....I'd rather have a clean finish over some cheap engraving

I'll post some pics on here after i receive the gun

Thanks for taking the time to post this up here 1963beretta! I am hoping to be shopping for a side by side sooner than later and had seen Churchill’s on line but hadn’t heard much about them. The photos are gorgeous and your review is promising. Thanks again!

Nice looking gun, what’s the price on them if you don’t mind me asking? Do you have and choice in barrel lengths or is 28” the only option? I’ve had a itch for a sxs for awhile but I don’t want to spend a ton on something that isn’t going to get used that much, I just want one for walking trails and for fun. I like blued steel and walnut stocks, threaded for Rem chokes is a bonus.

These guns are about $1000 here in Canada. It appears as though the guns in Canada are coming in 28” barrel lengths, but there are guns with both pistol grip and English stocks. Available in 12,20,28 and .410 guages

I was looking at the Akkar website and they have a shorter 20” version, the Churchill 512 HD. Can’t seem to find a Canadian retailer with it or a price but it’s more in line with what I’d like, a choked 20” sxs with a walnut stock and blued would be ideal for me where I hunt and hike. Thanks for the review!

Yes, 20” barrels are made, but I have not seen a distributor that is bringing them into Canada

Thanks, I’ll have to compare it to my 20” & 28” pump guns. I would expect the action on a break action would be shorter, as long as the oal is close a 28” barrel might be fine for me.
