Alberta Bison special lic draw

I've been told they don't want the animals from the Zama area crossing the hiway and getting with the Park animals. They're concerned the diseases each herd may have and don't want them sharing it. Also a lot of animals are getting hit on the Zama road in the winter. They need to cut the herd size down.

I was guiding north of High Level on year.. I think it was spring of 95.. Any way I had 3 natives try to steal my truck while i was in it..

They apparently have a healthy respect for a 12 gauge.. Long story short I still have my truck..

As to the Buff I'm curious why the draws are even available. Probably 15 years ago we asked for and recieved a letter from the minister responsible concerning Buffs.. To paraphrase .. there are no pure woodland buffs in the province.. there are no pure plains buff in the province.. they are all a hybrid and as such have no protection under the big game regs..shoot all you find outside of a park..

Any one know why this draw has been brought about???? Maybe just to let people know..

Thanks

The buff around Zama are pure strain wood bison, the result of a 1984 stocking, and the herd has grown too large and there is concern about them moving east and contacting the herd from the park plus there are getting to be some safety concerns in the local communities.
