Drawn for antlered mule deer and late season moose. Been 4 years since I got drawn for anything so better start shooting some more for practice.
antlerless moose - drawn

antlerless mule deer - drawn
wife: antlerless moose - drawn
son: antlerless mule deer - drawn
I was drawn for mule deer buck and doe. The doe is my conservation contribution where I will purchase the license and tag but will not fill it. However, if the right buck is found I will harvest him.![]()

??? If you "missed the draw" and you didn't apply for anything, then you did not gain any priority.

Like I said, "it's my conservation contribution", my way of doing it. I've been conducting this for decades and I also purchase the supplement whitetail tags and don't fill them either. There are many ways to contribute to wildlife, and this is one of a few that I conduct. For the mule buck tag, if I can't find a buck that gross scores 190 B&C I won't shoot any thing at all. If I don't see a whitetail buck that doesn't score 160 B&C I will not shoot anything at all...........my way of conserving wildlife in my hunting area and letting the smaller ones grow. If someone wants to draw a mule deer buck or doe tag they will have to wait their turn like I did.For Christ's sake Track you, as a long time hunter, should know better. Filled doe tags help conservation and increase the herd strength. This has been scientifically proven. If you think not filling a tag helps deer then how do you find it ethical to hunt anything at all?
I'm not going to start an argument, this thread is for posting hunting draws, but you are hindering conservation efforts in this province by intentionally drawing tags that you will not attempt to use. PM me if you want scientific literature to read on the subject and not anecdotal evidence of a long-held incorrect belief that shooting does hurts deer numbers.
If you purchased the tag and draw just to contribute money for conservation: do better next year and don’t draw the tag, leave it for someone else and donate the money to any one of a number of quality organizations.
that's right...as retarded as it can be.
You should at least be able to purchase your priority in the draws you should have been able to legaly apply for every year
But you can not

What's stopping you from purchasing priority and what's stopping you from applying every year?
Hey Y'all want to hunt open season, no draw, moose, 2 kinds of sheep,2 kinds of caribou, goats, black bears, bison and a grizzly every 3 years................move to the Yukon!!!!!!
I spoke with Kim Morton, the biologist out of Lethbridge, and he advised me that an animal count had not been conducted for over a decade. That would be in the zone that I hunt mule deer. Government can only do so much and hunters have to continue to be the best conservationists. My intentions are unselfish and only thinking for wildlife futures, for me and others.That would be great if you were contributing to conservation; however, you are not. By drawing a tag and intentionally not hunting it you are hurting efforts to manage game. Being picky on a tag is fine, it's just part of a hunter's calculated success rate.
When the number of tags are decided it's not just some random number. It's a calculation based on hunter success rate, carrying capacity of the land and current number of animals.
Deer management is a science, and let me repeat it: just because you buy a tag and intentionally not fill it does not mean there is one more doe next year. By that logic every animal we harvest lowers the animal count. In fact the harvest is a carefully managed science, where game is harvested to the carrying capacity of the land. Which both keeps numbers steady year after year, and promotes herd health. Poor management, or no management, (and if enough people went by your logic) causes populations to explode above carrying capacity and then crash, and then explode and then crash.
Again, you should know this as I’m sure you know small game like rabbits have cycles where they are abundant, crash, then are abundant again. Large game would be like this too if it was not for quality management.
If you want to know how this works it is shown by the following formula:
![]()
Where r= per capita rate of population growth under ideal conditions
n= number of individuals
k= carrying capacity of land
t= time interval
tau= is a time lag to compensate for how current population growth depends on past population size (because it takes time for an animal to reach maturity)
If you work well with numbers: when N(T-Tau)<K harvest is beneficial to bring the population closer to carrying capacity. So even when a population is under carrying capacity, a harvest is beneficial to prevent a large swing above carrying capacity and a subsequent crash. The following is a chart that allows one to visualize this:

The chart above shows in pink number of individuals of a species if left on their own (obviously under exaggerated circumstances). The yellow line is showing when high harvest would be beneficial to bring the population smoothly to a carrying capacity of 100 individuals.
Here is another chart showing a stable population fluctuating right around carrying capacity. The yellow is showing where a well timed harvest actually dampens large swings above and below carrying capacity:

Play the system as it was meant to be played track. It truly is the ticket to strong populations of game animals.
