Alberta Draws

Would you honestly kill four deer? They did stupid shxt like that in our area years ago. One bad winter and high predation and youll see the outcome. It was actually legal to have seven tags in my part of the country due to pressure applied by the Insurance companies. They werent making enough Billions for doing SFA and wanted the numbers reduced so the profits were even more crazy. Green is the colour. Our deer numbers still havent recovered

plenty of deer in the valley out back of my place. The WT seem to be more common till it get colder then the Mulies move up out of the river valley.

I don't need 4 deer so I wont shoot 4, I will be buying the tags and I think there is a 5th tag that is valid in my zone. Population is good and we're basically on an urban interface so very little hunting pressure, and we see deer hit on the side of the road more often then anyone hunting. Were also in a bow only area.

I wasnt trying to come down on you or be holier than anyone. Our area had a really great deer population but after the seven tag senario and handing out 100 percent doe tags for years on end our whitetail population has been severely impacted. Ive hunted for a very long time and witnessed mother natures ebb and flow but this is totally different. I use to watch countless deer while bowhunting and see many during a week of rifle hunting to the point that many just got a pass. In a month of bow hunting it was common to see deer on almost every outing and most times many in one sitting. Those days are long gone and in fourty years I went an entire week of gun season without seeing one deer a few years ago. Theyre still handing out doe permits like teenage boys with hardons, everyone gets one!!

yup, the province has been reducing the supplemental antlerless tags in many of the zones as the population has been decreased, but that was the goal of issuing the supplemental tags.

I remember getting a general moose tag every year, then it became all draw. Again I think Alberta has done a good job of balancing the tag allocation with the population.

One zone I hunted was so filthy with deer that there were years where I would max out my 3 tags on opening day. Then the wolves moved in to my happy little hunting area. I still go there as the bucks have great genetics and grow nice big racks.

If you have concerns maybe take it up with the Ontario Ministry as this has nothing to do with Alberta tags .... just sayin'

They assign supp tags in areas with excessive deer numbers until numbers are considered good. It is a very effective system.

I'm on the same page as you. Government gave an over-abundance of supplement tags; accompany that with winter, predator, road, poacher kills, theres not much left. I wish that they would have doe tags on draw only.

Two things this morning, Alberta draw results are out on July 8th. In addition to now allowing center fire 22 for big game, the age to hunt big game with a firearm in Alberta has now dropped to 10 years of age with adult supervision. It will be implemented this hunting season, I checked both the website which didn’t specify firearms and then confirmed it with Alberta RELM. Needless to say I have one very excited 11 year old grandson who we have been teaching since he was 6 years old.

Report Crown Land Access Issues

The Alberta Fish and Game Executive has been hearing concerns from members about access to Crown land and leased Crown land. We take these concerns very seriously as access to this land is fundamental for hunting. We have brought these concerns forward to the Ministry of Forestry and Parks and are currently in discussions with the Ministry on this topic.

We also have identified that there is a need to collect data on this issue so that we can better present our concerns with specifics to government officials. To collect this data we have launched a simple reporting form that you can fill out anytime access to Crown land is refused.

All data will be collated at the end of the season and we will share a summary report with the membership. Data will also be used to inform our government discussions on this topic moving forward.

Completing this form provides voluntary data to the AFGA to help us understand the issues out there and the frequency of occurrences.

Please remember that reporting your issues to the Government of Alberta is a separate task. This can be done by calling 310-LAND.

Information on access to Crown land and how to file a complaint with the government can be found here

Same issue here. Lessees have to allow reasonable access to leased crown land. In all of my years of asking permission, I never once was given permission to hunt leased crown land. Extremely frustrating when some areas have an abundance of it.

I'll steal this and forward it to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. Leased crown land was a point for discussion last year...

I'm really hoping the big bull elk steps out this year. He didn't want to show up for my dad last year
Good luck to yall.

Last year I was trying to flank a herd but they managed to slip away and the year before that I was hiking a trail and a big bull jumped out right infront of me but it wasn't in season in that area yet haha if it was a week later bull elk opened up in that area. I keep getting so close 😂

The grizzly responder tag, its only a cash grab if you apply without the intention of using it if drawn. The odds of being drawn are low and the restriction on response time need to be taken into account if you are drawn. If a grizzly is on your wish list, this is an opportunity available. It might be priced above normal, but its not a normal opportunity.

It got an unbelievable amount of negative press when announced as it is going to eliminate all the grizzlies in Alberta and the surrounding area.
Pure fear mongering. It is simply an opportunity for a very small number of Albertan's to legally kill a problem bear if everything works out. The bears being targeted are already on a death watch. It is not a hunt, nor has it been promoted as such. If that meets the definition of a cash grab, so be it.

I know who got the first one just a few weeks back. Atleast I think it was the first…
