Alberta Hunting season 2020

I just have a laugh about it.... Killed a couple bulls within a km or 2 of where a camp sets up and I'm pretty sure there's one ATV for every hunter at camp. I think they're pretty happy to drive around, drink beer and maybe get an animal. Killed a couple or so more 1/2 - 1km off well used ATV trails that most never set foot off the trail.

Matter of fact, when I see elk camps full of ATV's I know that there'll be a lot of elk leftover.

Having said all that, I myself own an ATV and there is a time and place for it.

The one thing that I can really appreciate an ATV for is recovering the game once it is down. Having said that I generally do not hunt where ATV use is allowed so I don't own one. I do have an old Land Rover that can go a lot of places but again it is not allowed most of the places I hunt either so I'm hoofing it. I used to hunt in 316 in, years ago, but the ATV use there pushed me out largely due to the banning of trucks to allow for the ATV use.

The 2020 Alberta Big Game Draws opens on May 26, 2020 at 9:00am MT and runs through June 18, 2020 at 11:59pm MT.

just a reminder from Alberta RELM

Thanks for the heads-up woodchopper. I was just talking to one of my hunting buddies yesterday about our draws for this year. We may have enough priority to get drawn in Camp Wainwright this year but I'm curious if the military will put any restrictions on it this year as that area is under their jurisdiction.....
The rest of the draws I'm not concerned about as it seems like it is business as usual in Alberta.
Good luck to everyone in the draws!

Wife and I went for a drive down some old logging roads in our neck of the woods the other day and it seems like the chicken and deer population is making a comeback. Seen a healthy looking moose too.

You have to have purchased your Wildlife Certificate to apply for any draws, I’m not sure about having completed your harvest reports, but I believe they have to also be done before applying.

as per the RELM e-mail

New this year, a valid Wildlife Certificate is required to apply.

When applying as a group, all members must have a valid Wildlife Certificate in order to successfully enter the draw. Group leaders will not be able to add group members who do not have the required Wildlife Certificatate.

Purchase your Wildlife Certificate and apply early this year to ensure your draw applications are correct.

Online hunting licence purchases require that you have a paper tag(s) in order to complete the transaction. Save time by ordering your tags early this year!

as for ordering tags I did that about a month ago and they still have not shown up at my door yet...

Thanks for the updates gentlemen. Wildlife certificate and spring bear tag in hand since early April :)

Another trip out this weekend, Saturday to be 22 in my areas. Lots of greening up, but this is a late spring.

Camp Wainwright seems like it could have a special asterisk re: potential disruption, given the military context.

Good luck to all.

FYI Woodchopper - I just received an envelope in the mail with my tags in it so you should receive yours soon if you haven't already.

Good Luck to all in the upcoming draws!

It's my year again for bull moose with a P2 :)

Good luck to all, the spring bear season (especially during a pandemic) has reminded me how enjoyable hunting is, really loving and appreciating the adventures.

Bull Moose.......... P3 ... gonna 999 that one
Cow Moose......... P1 ..... 999
Buck Mulie.......... P10 ...... hmmm this one has me thinking
Cow Elk ............ P5........ this one is looking good for me in WMU *** :)

antlerless elk.... :) Pri 14 :) 999 again
I may look at calf moose this year Pri 1 so that will be a 100% chance of being drawn
as for deer, I'll just get the general and supplemental Whitetail
and I can get 2 more antlerless any deer species tags for my back yard, Bow only, zone. There were 4 deer back there yesterday.
that should be enough tags for me

I'll 999 everything else

Use up your Buck Mule priority!
Mine is only at priority 3 but I know a zone near me where that should get drawn so I'm going for it.
