Alberta - Is RAMP Dead?

If was actually true that "playing outside the forum rules" got you banned, and that "rules are rules", you'd be firmly entrenched on the banned list too. ;)

I don't think it's any secret how things work over there.

Waxy

I've never knowingly broken the rules. Seems a lot of guys got caught with multiple profiles on that other site which I understand is a bannable offence but I'm guessing that this really isn't the place to be discussing another forum. PM me if you'd like any details. I can pass along to you what I was told by several mods there. Since you brought it up I thought I'd pass along what I knew but in respect to the mods and board here, that's where I'll leave it. The rest can be dealt with via PM if you like.

My only desire here is to help spread current info about RAMP. That's why I asked the question to Grant and immediately posted his response. I was surprised no one else posted it earlier. He answered my e-mail fairly quickly...in the world of government anyhow. Information is power! Always good to substantiate or put to rest rumours I find. Not really sure I see the point of the constant sniping and derailing. If I didn't know better, I'd be concerned about the motives of some of the "instrumental"

Now can we just talk about RAMP?

Are Morton, Gates, Knopff and the core group of landowners that were behind this from the start going to throw their hands up and give in? Not friggin likely. More likely their already scheming the next program (can you say HFH?) that'll avoid the pitfalls that RAMP and Open Spaces stumbled on.

What is HFH?

Explain how this group of landowners got RAMP going. I've never heard about that. These guys are SE Alberta ranchers!?

Unreal.

Anyone who has followed the Open Spaces pilot project and it's iterations knows your shenanigans both there and here. Funny how you choose to play a different game when there is no protective shield. Also funny how quickly you ran to the mods on a couple of the heated topics here. I never cared much for tattle tales when I was a kid - now I just find it humorous.

As for the response - thanks for posting. I and others likely had the response at the same time or even perhaps a touch earlier - I am sure the war room was waiting to groom it before Grant was allowed to comment. The fact we may not be so quick to post isn't because we have not learned the same information of that we are not as connected as you, but may be as simple as we don't live on the net.

Demonical:

HFH was one component of a two pronged pilot dubbed the Open Spaces Pilot Project. The main jist was that landowners would be alloted tags for certain species of big game animals to sell to the highest bidder.
If you are looking for definitive information on this, shoot a PM to Bubbasno1 - he knows more about the pilot than he likely would like to and has every stitch of documentation along the whole process. You can also go to the link on my sig line to learn more

If you guys want to continue with this topic here keep it clean and get back to the main issue. Most of us know what has happened in the past so lets leave it there...

This goes out to everyone. This is not the other forum that has been mentioned and we will not let the same crap happen here.

Thanks!

Thanks to CGN, Crazy davey and Maddog for allowing ALL of us to use this board to get info out to Albertan's and other people who are interested in the Ramp project and earlier the Open Spaces project. It was the people like bubba, Norskie, Tempest, Waxy, lazyIke, Moon etc. (sorry if i missed anyone) that brought information out in the open for everyone to see. Hopefully (I am not convinced) we see the end of PAID HUNTING in Alberta.

Absolutely! Internet messageboards have really changed the way information is transmitted and without venues like this, sportsmen not be as informed and would not be able to react so quickly to changes to our hunting and fishing rights as they do. I'm sure the Government hates them but sportsmen should offer their thanks more often. Good post and keep that information flowing!

A big thanks to CGN for allowing the meaningful discussion of this issue. I know things got heated at times so a special thanks to the Mods for sifting through a lot of the emotion.

There were some truly fine people and groups that went the distance in this fight. We had fairly regular meetings that were very well attended and at various times included members of a wide range of groups including the Lethbridge Fish & Game Association, the Alberta Fish & Game Association, Pheasants Forever (Lethbridge Chapter), the Southern Alberta Bowhunters Association, the Alberta Bowhunters Association, The Alberta Conservation Association, retired Fish and Wildlife Officers, retired Fish and Wildlife Biologists and individuals that truly game a damn about the future of hunting and fishing in Alberta. We were even able to get support and valuable insight from individuals such as Dr. Valerius Geist! These are guys that remained vigilant and never let their guard down throughout the process. There was a lot of great networking and behind the scenes work by individuals from across the Province.

There are a few guys that Guido mentioned (excluding me) that really did a lot of work early on to bring information on Open Spaces Alberta to hunters and anglers. Without their considerable time and efforts I am certain that all would be lost and we would be currently strapped with both HFH and RAMP. Many thanks to all!

Well said!

And especially Davey, who stayed so gosh darned civil throughout.:D

Is this unusual? I finally met Davey a few months back and he seemed like a real creampuff. I had never met a guy that drank white wine spritzers before :stirthepot2:!!!!

Oh ya, and any more creampuff comments and I will reach over and hit my magic

Nope, this cat is always calm, cool and collected

Ya, and you must have fed me way too many of those as I almost turned myself into a pancake on your front lawn

When I was younger I thought that I was allergic to leather - because every time I woke up with my shoes on I had a headache....

Hanging around Moon can have the same results:p

Hopefully the time to celebrate is upon us. The optimisitic side of me says RAMP is dead...the pessimistic side says there are numerous ways the government could interpret the results of the pilot project.....not all in the resident hunters' favour.

I'll resist the temptation to trade insults tempest...:) The first and last one is yours.

The declaration or hopes that RAMP is dead are premature and incorrect.

RAMP will still be evaluated based primarily on the input of participating landowners and hunters. This, in turn, will be evaluated and recommendations will be made as to continue, tweak or terminate RAMP or similar programs in Alberta.

Unfortunately, there were no habitat assessments done on any of the RAMP properties so that key criteria will not be used in the evaluation.

RAMP (as a pilot project) has been shortened, primarily due to lack of funding, but its future is still uncertain.

Yup, pretty sure I said that exact thing a couple times but no harm in you repeating it that's for sure. Definitely no time to let our guard down.

Sorry, I didn't see where you said the exact same thing (I actually went back and reviewed your posts and I'm still not seeing it?).

I just had a good discussion with Grant Chapman and thought I would pass on the information. I apologize if you somehow thought I was plagiarizing you.

No problem...I appreciate the apology. I just thought that since you quoted me that it was aimed at me. As I said, it's a message that bears repeating. Let's all keep vigilant.

I do not see a direct quote.

control issues? The desire to be in control of the bus and the information I guess.

Thanks for the update Moon. Keep up the good work.

You must have caught him on an extra good day. I would like to think I helped him get to where he is today. Maybe if even just a bit. For example here is a pic of him on our second Ram trip, drying his clothes by the fire......

Maybe I shouldn't.:D
He's a good kid.:)
