Alberta Poker Rally 2016

Roddy:
(not to run over Rooster, just adding couple things so you're comfortable)
You don't need a spotting scope....but can certainly have one there if you like.....there is always a RSO at every station spotting, and usually others as well.
Same goes for a spotter.
Rangefinders and ballistic calculators are fine.
Targets are at random distances.
You can shoot from any position you like, most shoot prone on "platforms" which the organizers generously supply.
There is no "competition" as such. By the time you shoot your first station, you will be at ease and comfortably enjoying yourself.

Quick question.

"targets are at random distance"- does that mean we are given a size of target and we have to range using reticle, or that we don't know the distances until we arrive at the stage?

I'm trying to drum up interest with a few buddies to attend the event. Looks like fun.

The RSO will know the size of the targets and will happily give you the distance , and also help spot for you . As rooster pointed out there is no real competition aside from what ever you place on your self .

Thanks for the info everyone. I was more worried I would show up missing needed items or be unprepared more than fall behind in the "competition". I'm not a great shot so the have fun/do your best attitude definitely works for me!

Oh and it turns out my spotter may no longer just be spotting and may shoot as well.

I thought this was more of a longe range thing. .22 s are not so long range. Can you give us a idea as to some of the ranges we will be shooting at?

I shot it last year and all targets were inside of 500 yards. The challenge stage for an extra card was at 1200 yards. I only touched my elevation turret to dial the 1200 yards, everything else was close enough to hold over with a mildot reticle. This is not an F Class match.

Fellas, this is a fun event and not geared towards a "match". All distances and targets that will be shot are very doable by even a modest shooter. At each station there will be three targets of varying sizes at different distances. For each target hit, you will have an opportunity to draw a card. As there are 5 stations, so long as you hit a single target at each stage, you will make a final hand. As each card drawn is random, all your hands are random.

This was designed this way to ensure that all the best prizes are up for grabs to absolutely any shooter of any skill level and keeps the event focused on fun and not competition.

As Rooster said, this is about getting out, meeting new people interested in the same things and socializing while doing something you enjoy.

There will be a target inside of 100 yards for the most part and a further one approaching the 500 mark if we can squeeze it with the stage limitation.

Bring your quad if you have and enjoy the area by quadding from stage to stage. The pig roast is fantastic, the people are great. The sponsors are fantastic and hopefully we get many of the same sponsors from last year involved.

This is all in the name of fun and growing the community. Not for competition. There are plenty of "matches" for that.

PS
There is a prone bench and a shooting bench. No offhand or crazy positions. If you aren't comfortable shooting prone, there will be a shooting bench at each station.

Haha. Right. I forgot what Shane does with bottles. I will work on emptying them for him. What he does with them after that is his business. I will skip out on that portion. LOL
