hello gents,
I have a question: does anyone know if Alberta has wild boars somewhere?
I mean WILD wild boar, not guided pet shooting....
really appreciate any input
best regards
Kot

yes, i have seen them along highway 22, and i have heard that st anne county (?) has a bunch.

I've also seen wild boar on the # 22 about 10 miles north of where it ties into the #3 at the Crowsnest Pass. About 6 or 8 of them. I had to do a double take as to what they were.

Winter is best as you can track them. They like to stay on well blazed trails so stand off to the side if one is coming. Those tusks will cut right thru your snow suit.

There was a guy south of Fairview who had a few and turned them loose a few years ago. There are a few near the Duncan Indian reserve near Berwyn (south). The closer you get to the Peace River, the better.

The guy who owned "Razortooth Ranch"?

There used to be a bounty on them in Lac Ste. Anne county. Saw three just south of Calihoo, on Meridian Rd. about 3 years ago.
There are a few in the old bar in Stony Plain, especially during happy hour! Oh, wait a minute, those are cougars!!;)

Connor Creek grazing lease is what you want guys, talk to the pasture manager, impossible to miss. There is a big bejesus sign on his property.

I was there once, once you get the brief and okay from the pasture manager...continue driving west past two pastures, texas gate, left and right
grazing pasture......road turns right....at that corner to your left is a goat trail heading due north west kind of.

That looks the best for a hunt, lots of close bush, shots will be close on boar...you will see thier little crooked trails through the bush there...

Following the main road you drove in on, you quickly come on to a popular camp/boat launch site....full of people in the summer months...
PS: there are lots of black bear sign in the area too....
Likewise stated earlier, better hunting in the winter, with the leaves down.

Good Luck to anyone hunting wild boar in Lac Ste Anne County!!

Cheers..........:)

just talked to the WL officer.....it seams that hunting the free running Wild Boar is ILLIGAL.....why? just because it`s the same as hunting down a free running cow.....it can be somebody`s property :( you can have problems with RCPM after they find out that you shot "wild" wild boar.....
he told me to contact RCMP to figure out this question first and after that contact "owners" of the escaped boars :))))) it`s too hard to find out if this is an escaped boar (property) or the second or even the third generation of wild running wild boars......

Im not too sure. I heard about it from the "coffee shop' boys . Said no one was paying to hunt, weren't worth nothing to sell, so instead of feeding them, he cut them loose to fend for themselves. Sold his fence too.

thats a big change, my understanding is that wild boar were an introduced species and considered a to be a nuisance animal. Shoot on sight, they are not considered livestock.
