All is Not Right in Eotech Land... *UPDATE Getting Worse*

pretty much a non issue....

1. it is a close range fast target acquisition sight... so most people will not notice a shift of a little bit.
2. ammo will behave differently with that much variation in the conditions anyway.... so as long as you zero in the conditions you are fighting in... you likely won't have a problem.
3. you should confirm your zero often if you rely on your weapon for real life (or competition) regardless.

4. -40 and +50 is a massive range for an electronic device that is designed to be under forces such as recoil. (expansion and contraction or circuit boards and other parts, etc)

ps... A $50,000 truck can have trouble starting in -40 without a block heater..... and can overheat at +50... why should a $500 sight be perfect?
(I know... apples to oranges... but hey..)

Sssssh...they are junk and I'll be kind enough to take one off someone's hands at a decent price so they can upgrade to something better...

From what I'm reading, the shift isn't happening between -40 Deg F and 122 Deg F but at -40 Deg F and 122 Deg F from a standard zero.

Afghanistan can hit both those extremes. The lowest temperature record is -67 °C in the northern regions and the highest record is 49.0 °C from 1997.

Also the Eotech is not a snipper scope. If you have one on your rifle in very general terms you are looking to hit an 8" plate (centre of mass) up to distances of 400m.

I'm no snipper, but at 400 yards a 4-6MOA shift would put you out 16-24 inches. Kind of makes that G33 magnifier less appealing.

A standard zero at what temperature?

True, however EOtechs were used in Afghanistan and the guys using them still managed to hit their targets.

I am not saying it isn't an issue to be aware of, but as I said before, any shooter should check their gear, and confirm zero...

That's an interesting point, I know someone will have the answer. How often are the fellas able to check their zero in the sandbox?

Interesting. I ran an eotech in Afghanistan on 2 of my trips and can honestly say it preformed flawlessly from -10 to 50. When the back to the elcan pop can on the third trip and took it off after 3 months due to engagment ranges. She took a kicking and kept on ticking for combat shooting it did the trick.

Is it possible that it's just a bad batch?

Either way it's an issue if they want to remain competitive in the market with tons of new options poping up almost quarterly it seems

Truth, I had boots melt on tar mac and I had bic lighter explode in my pocket.

It is an issue that is big enough L3 needs to disclose in their filing to the SEC and make a reserve. When a liability is required to be accrued by accounting rules, this means there is a reasonable probability they may need to pay out. They screw something up and have to pay up. Most likely for giving incorrect spec.

Once a month, some times once every two months on a 25m range.. or at the beginning of a fire fight

And tv press pass... afghanistan hits almost 70 celcius( #### 67 was brutal... started getting heat stroke walking 300 meters to the mess, we didnt do anything... the locals didnt do anything... and the taliban didnt do anything it was 40+ in the ac and it felt like heaven)... but kandahar doesn't have an official weather station so it "doesn't count".
