All-New: Type 81M

I figured some actual data would be a welcomed change of pace from the standard made up BS from non owners that is 99% of this thread. Got the 81M out to the range today, very pleased with the results. Groups with a red circle around them are from a type 81 SE folder, groups with yellow are from the Type 81M. Groups were shot at 30 M, using Chinese surplus ammo (corrosive). Overall I'd say they were about the same all things considered. My type 81 SE has a thinner front sight post (aftermarket) so it had a slight edge in that regard, but the 81Ms longer sight radius compensated for this nicely. I think the M with a thinner front sight post would have been able to squeeze a bit more out of it. I think these are solid 3-4 MOA guns, perfectly reasonable accuracy for what they are, and better than what most people can shoot. 100% reliable that part basically goes without saying. Great purchase, my ideal changes would be a pencil barrel (may as well, not like a heavier barrel makes these more accurate) thinner front sight from factory, SA or SE style handguard (still not a huge fan of this flat bottom one) and the old style folder (one of the best folding stock designs ever made including by first world countries).

TL DR: 3-4 MOA gun, 100% reliable, Spend more time shooting guns than measuring them.

that's 3-4 MOA at 30 meters! My math triples that ...so 9-12 MOA.

Im quoting you to ensure that this statement is immortalized in the halls of the internet. Behold, the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say on CGN. That's saying something. 12 MOA at 30 M would be over 4 inches. I really really shouldn't have to say this, but the yellow and red circles i drew to illustrate where the groups are...aren't the size of the group lol.

Just picked up 3 Underfolders, at Home and look great, tight, straight and blemish free....

You need to get your eyesight checked pal. You didn’t notice they’re all bent to hell and that the “relief cut” for the “extractors” are obviously manufacturing defects? Better return all 3.

I plan on doing a comprehensive review with lots of pics on my underfolder and comparing it with underfolders from different countries (AKs) is there anything anyone wants me to compare in particular? Any dimensions people want, pics of certain angles, see if certain accessories fit, etc

If you can compare the underfolder mounting hole in the received between T81 and an AK (or really just roughly measure the inside diameter of the mounting hole on T81) I know one guy who'd appreciate it

Guess i should quit my day job? Machinist.. It is actually looking pretty good. If one looks down barrel from front, You might notice face and firing pin line up perfect. I really can not measure much in deflection ... I really think most of these problems are a minor percentage.. and warranty should take care if one is really needing.

Exactly,, my 3 are perfect.. had all type81,s and these seem no different.. Best part is one can customize them any way one wants..

Another data point for those interested:

Thanks TI!

All I can say is that I am very pleased with the quality.
Will have to go out and put a few hundred through it (hopefully this weekend).

-fit and finish ok. No issues noted. Small mark on the bottom fore end (from folder) but I’m ok with that, as I’ll be shooting it and enjoying it. It’s not a collector piece!
-receiver to barrel is completely straight
-folder is straight (open and closed)
-slight 1/4” play when fully opened or folded (won’t effect you when shouldered as it locks at the stop point)
*** this may bother some people, I am not sure how bad it will rattle in the field. But I don’t plan on shooting it folded/closed, unless for novelty, try it once, etc
-slight contact with mag when folding or unfolding (very slight, not a problem) just push it past
-came soaked in oil and had to sacrifice an old t-shirt to clean off the excess oil

I am super pleased with it. I will be super happy if these are 100% reliable as EVERYONE says they are.
I had the chance at an original T81 fixed from the original shipment, but I didn’t like how cheap and lightweight it felt.
This feels much better built, and I appreciate the heavier barrel.
The paddle release is nice, but the heavier barrel and more importantly the extended sight radius makes it superior to the other models.
And thank god, they got rid of the hooded rear sight. Had I owned a hooded sight model I would have used an angle grinder to remove it.

This feels good in the hands. Thank you TI!
Can’t wait to see how she shoots!

Well here is the discrepancy. anyone that shoots at targets will understand and agree.
if in all targets you are aiming at the bulls eye and not adjusting anything or changing the ammo it is impossible to get these king of groups.
Here is why aiming at the bulls eye four targets are below lets say bullet drop, the one on the lower left the bullets rise somehow, regardless the group. At 30m the difference between the upper left and the lower left is 4 moa, at 100m it would be like 13 moa difference between them, how exactly did you get this?
