All-New: Type 81M

Hey, what do you guys recommend? A type 81 SE side folder, or the type 81m fixed stock? Between these two, which has a better cheek weld?

Were the changes for the M variant made for a non-Canadian client's military version, or is the M a civilian-only variant unique to the Canadian market, like the SR? While military providance is cool, having a second Canadian-only variant made by a major Chinese arms supplier before they shutdown the factory line forever would be quite the feather in TI's hat :) . If this is based on the tooling from the LMG/SR, demand proves strong, the political climate changes next year, and the tooling is still intact, would another shipment be possible? Thanks!

We plan on another M shipment after these sell out, but this one took over a year to make, so it might be a while. We requested changes to the design based on end user feedback, not sure if we will also see these changes being used for military clients

Thanks, really cool to see Tactical Imports managed to get the factory to make changes specific to the Canadian run-and-gun sports shooter market!

And for all those whiners complaining TI said the last shipment of rifles was the last shipment ever, and then produced these, TI is correct; the blonde and red furniture grenade sleeved shipments were the last 80's original design military semi-auto clone, LARP correct versions that will ever be produced, so each is precious, though maybe not as much as the scalpers would like to say :p . The Type 81 M is a unique civilian descendent of the design, but until someone deploys those changes as part of a military order, it is not a direct clone of an existing military rifle; like the SR, it is its own uniquely Canadian animal.

If the M design changes and/or M-Lok handguard make there way to a new military version, it would actually echo how competitive shooter changes to pistols and rifles sometimes make there way back to military rifles in the States, so that would be a even cooler addition to the story of the Type 81 and Canada.

Zastava is making a new AK variant called the M19 MCS; it can switch between 6.5 Grendel and 7.62 x 39 mm. Although the calibre switch trick would be way too intensive for the factory, it would be a cool option if even a few of the next batch could be in Grendel. This would give people the option of reaching out an touching varmints and light game at considerable ranges. It may also make the SR an actual acceptable DMR rifle for military buyers. Just a suggestion.

Regardless, good luck with the current shipment, and whatever future shipment plans TI has, and thank you for providing this cool option the Canadian firearms community!

Im going to guess side folder.... If the M has the same fixed stock geometry of the SEs and older 2017 rifles. The fixed however can be more easily swapped out in the future for better stocks.

Thank you, do you know of any aftermarket side folder stocks that can also be extended in order to get a better length of pull?

If you can get a third party a fixed stock to 1913 adapter, the Midwest Industries Alpha AK stock has variable length of pull and riser height, and can side fold, with the fold direction being reversable. If you can find stock, there is a Magpul Zhukov stock adapter, or you can directly modify a Zhukov stock as documented by GNutzGuy on YouTube.
