All-New: Type 81M

Order mid 275XX

Purchased late March 12th
Order Processing March 18th
RCMP Notification at 3am! today March 21st

Huge kudos to TI for burning the midnight oil to get these orders filled as fast as possible. Would be curious to know how much volumetric pressure these orders have placed on Canada Post, I'm sure there are going to be a lot of antsy buyers (myself included) with the upcoming Easter Holiday and Type 81s sitting at postal depots.

I can't remember if it it was in this thread or another, but someone described a 1913 mount ideas as plate held against the back of the receiver connected to a bracket that uses the holes from the underfolder. Tdi-arms makes an AK underfolder to 1913 and buffer tube adapter that matches this description. I doubt the adapter would directly in the Type 81 underfolder, as I'm sure the receiver and stock socket geometry differs, but hopefully they can be used as a reference. If there's a demand, TI could commission the factory, a local, reliable third party may be able to make something similar in Canada, or maybe Tdi-arms would be willing to modify their design to fit the Type 81 for Tactical Imports to sell here. Again, for reference.

This looks interesting, I'll see if I can copy this with a 3d printer when I get mine. It obviously won't be as nearly strong, but hopefully someone with a mill can take my CAD files and make or improve it.

The fixed stock are sold out, and not everyone wants the length of the LMG. An underfolder to other stock adapter allows someone to keep one copy unmolested and "vibe" correct, and mod the heck over another copy, or may help those who have buyer's remorse over the underfolder's comfort an option short of trading their rifle.

Apparently the bent rifle issue is back, according to a guy on Facebook! Fingers crossed this is a bs Facebook post and not true.

Dam I'll have to check mine when I get home. Anyone else have a bent barrel?

Looks like it's the fixed stock that are bent this time around.

It was my fixed stock in the second shipment that was bent. It’s actually the receiver to barrel alignment, and the receiver itself.

Also, it was difficult to mount an optic on it because my threaded pins wouldn’t line up perfect with the Master mount. I eventually got it on, but it was difficult to zero a red dot on - my windage was pretty much tapped out.

My Master mount is tight against the receiver at the front but slightly off the receiver at the back - this tells me the receiver itself isn’t straight either.

It does go bang very reliably.

Did TI not offer to warranty it?

I can’t remember. I recall that I was in contact with them but I think they said it was in spec for the T81. I suspect it is for the rifles coming off the line.

It didn’t really bother me that much.

What bothered me more, was people claiming I was seeing things, and that it was an optical illusion.

I like TI too, but I’m not such a fan that I’d deny the obvious problems of another persons rifle.

People had been adamant that I was lying, or exaggerating, or just seeing things - it was weird.

It’s mine forever because it’s bent. Nobody would buy it. Also, I don’t know if it’s my mounts alignment issue or what, but it’s 2” at 25 yards.

Another data point for those interested:

#273XX
March 12- Tue around 5pm EST ordered
March 20- Wed around 9pm EST RCMP Transfer notice
Still waiting for shipping info/label created.
……..

I can’t believe we have members here who are so combative, demeaning and impatient.
If you think you can do better regarding shipping 1000’s of rifles, I think you’re clueless.

Thank you TI for bringing in this shipment, and thank you for putting in the long hours to keep the shipments moving!

As far as Im aware, they are all Type 81SA's.

haha your list has got me reminiscing. Its sure been quite a ride all these years.

Popularity IMO varies with exclusiveness, reception and aftermarket options.

At the start in 2017 with the Type 81 Blonde Rifles Im sure many were torn between PLA Type 81-1 side folder vibes.... and fixed (ooo it looks like a AKM) vibes. Quickly people started to notice how uncomfortable the cheek geometry was on the fixed stocks so when the Type 81 Special Edition Rifles came in many wouldve opted for the folders for better shooting comfort. However at the same time many owners were suggesting that the misaligned trunnion issue was more prevalent with the folders. Some may have gone fixed regardless on that info alone. Demand grew even more for the fixed models when aftermarket stock adapters became a thing almost exclusively for them since the side folder mechanism is permanently attached to the rear receiver trunnion. All while this is happening, Canadians of course are begging for the LMG and a SVD clone. Surprisingly the LMG did become a thing. LMG popularity died off as purchasers came to terms with how heavy and unwieldy it was in factory form. Special Edition Rifles stopped coming in and the LMG once again grew in popularity through desperation AND people started to realize that you could make cool front heavy AK looking rifles out of them. Then the SR came out of no where. People were uber hyped thinking it would be everything they fantasized about in "DayZ", "Escape From Tarkov" etc. only to realize that they wernt generally anymore accurate then the LMG builds, or arguably the older Rifles. On top of that they had a critical stock issue that made many owners sit on it waiting for a proper fix. And many decided that the left hand offset Russian optic life wasnt their cup of tea.

I think they were all great in their own ways and Tactical Imports has done an good job trying to meet Canadas Type 81 demands. I think the new Type 81M has made the LMG mostly redundant now as a builders / AK clone base. The SR still has its niche for providing Combloc DMR larping and the older rifles are still the best overall performers in terms of light weight and well balanced mod'eble run and gun rifles or TRUE Type 81s.

But they also said themselves:”On SA shipment, nobody wanted folders” on page 129 of this thread

i know the above post is long but it explained why nobody wanted the folders on the SA shipment bcos of the severe "bent" was prevalent in the folders, resulting in pent up demand for the folders on the following SE shipment. however the above post failed to mention the over supply of the LMG and the stock issue of the SR forced the prices down to sub $1000.

so generally the public favors the folders albeit you cant swap it.

Fixed can be easily converted to folders with aftermarket stock adapters. Most flexibility.

easy for you and me but not everybody are handy plus it cost money to buy a adapter and stock and now there are no adapter avail bcos sigmaco is gone.
