Side mounts will not work with underfolder. However we do have M-Lok handguard that will start shipping in a few weeks
Is it because of the location of the pivot lug or because the optic mount would interfere with folding the stock?
I agree, just don't fold it if you are using optics but you need a right hand safety, also for the fixed stock version.
Getting the folder, and adding an optic mount that doesn't let it fold seems a bit counterproductive, the folder will have a less then ideal cheek weld by design, but if I was getting one I'd be thinking about the railed foreend and a red dot if I wanted an optic.

Get the fixed if you like shooting at the shoulder, get folding if you like shooting from the hip (preferably into dirt). Underfolders suck on the face, but look awesome and its the one I would choose. But I am also biased towards folding stocks
The worst thing about underfolders is they start killing your ribs after maybe 20th or so mag change. U/F are only for collectors and for cool looking factor. God damn that day when from the bunch of available AKs I picked U/F... never again! Big fan of side-folders since then.

Did you serve in some army carrying an AK-47 underfolder? One full AK military magazine is 30 rounds. So, 20 magazines would make about 600 rounds. In my other life I just carried 3 full AK-47 mags, that's all. My ribs were O.K. In Canada, we can only have 5 rounds in a mag. So, 20 mags make barely 100 rounds. Don't see much of a problem.
