All-New: Type 81M

FFS. Shut the #### up and talk guns. Reddit's over there if you want to race bait to feel better about yourself god damn snowflake ####.

Holy crap you guys gotta lay off the booze before posting on here. Bunch of boomers arguing over nothing. Keep it on topic.

I'll be getting my T81 on Monday. I'll report back if it's straight/damaged and if it's good to go I'll be taking it out right after to run it a bit.

Thank you. For both parts of this post.

What the hell is going on here? This is a business forum, not Facebook, y'all have gone full Karen.

I'm just here for firearms, facts about firearms, and order number shipment updates. Not BillyBob and Earl's arguing.

Cheek rest/riser stolen from my SR, super solid with some cut pipe foam between the metal and wood, no you can't fold like this but take off is very fast

Butt pad anybody for the softies? Still a bit crude, took me 10 minutes with the ali butt pad I had.

Glad to see my butt-pad suggestion worked with modification. Never-mind Jeff Foxworthy, Red Green would be proud!

Well now you all got me worried. How can they replace a bent t81m if they're all sold out? I haven't received my order yet so feel like I'll be SOL if there's an issue. Whether it works or not, I'm not accepting a bent POS, even "within spec".

Its been said that they will address Type 81s with a barrel misalignment greater then 4mm. 4mm over 18.7" works out to only .482 degrees, and bullets @100m hitting only 2ft 9" potentially to the right of where a receiver mounted optic may be pointing. Something any half decent optic including the old Soviet FFP PSOs can easily adjust for. And once the optics zeroed its good after that... right out to the ballistic limits of x39. A lot of individuals including me are still rocking old 2017 Blonde import rifles that have barrels misaligned far beyond 4mm. They shoot fine, although guys like me who wanted to run side mount optics had to mill a substantial taper into a proprietary side rail to get the job done. I calculated mine to be about 5-6ft right @100m lol

My point to prove was, that if there is a will, there is a way. Didn't cost me a penny, and I am glad to show what has to be done to make it fit.

The folder is actually better than the fixed stock since you have the option to use it or not, plus the fixed stock really needs a butt pad, LOP is laughable.

And TI is correct, the sight picture is improved and with the SR cheek rest, pretty amazing comfortable. TI should offer those cheek rests separately. I sigmacoed my SR with the AR stock, so I didn't need it anyways.

I had quite a few type 81 and out of 20 only encountered one which may or may not have been misaligned (using gnnutz method). Maybe I was just lucky, the people whom I sold to sure are when I look at the current prices on gp. I even refinished the scratched up wood on the red ones before I sold them.

Good to know..

How many were LMG variants ? the issue in my observation only existed with the rifles. The Blondes being the worst, then when the SEs came notably less of them were reported to have barrel misalignment issues, TI at the same time introduced the 4mm deviation to help reduced the intimidation of getting a "bent" one. To date, i dont recall having seen any credible evidence of a "bent" LMG or SR actually. Which leads me to believe none of the Type 81M's will have the issue either. Only other stuff like bent stocks, dust covers, canted sights, rust, potential pitting etc. etc.

As to the folder when folded and not 100 % square on each side, I plan on taking off all furniture, heating up the oven and put the folding part in as much as I can for 5 minutes and then bend/twist it. I don't think bending and twisting when cold is a good idea. Course you need thick gloves.

Correct, the ones I mentioned were all folders and fixed, no problem with the LMG's and SR's. I still have one blued LMG which are the nicest of them all. There was really only one fixed one which may or may not have been misaligned. I told the guy I sold it to and to return it if he has a problem, never heard of again.

Won't be hot enough to give any advantage over a cold twist.

Thanks for the cool picture! See if this one embeds.
The front sight and gas block are different from the T81M. The front sight block looks like an AK one with an open top (Chinese T56 have a full hood) and the gas block lacks the selector valve on the T81. They probably built it from the parts they have lying around. Apart from that and their distinct furniture, everything else looks like a regular T81.

Looks like the second Made in Wa State variant mentioned in this TFBTV article, https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/09/14/border-wars-the-type-81-variants-of-the-united-wa-state-army/ .

Interesting case of convergent evolution with the M, the finger groves give a better grip, similar to the M's modified lower handguard, and the AK site mirrors the improved site picture of the M.

At least somebody appreciates my work, lol.

I widened the channel first, then cut out the corner where I feed it in.

All with a box cutter. Still have to smoothen everything out but that thing sits tight.

And yes, it is a butt (recoil) pad, they are all ugly.

Lowest price on ali is $10 with shipping what I saw.

Plus 10 minutes crude work and endless time to look smooth, lol. Priceless.

Nice work, guys! I had already passed the info about the butt pad and SR cheek rest to TI directly, to avoid it being flooded out by the last thread derailment, and they said they would look into it. I will pass the updated info along.

The underfolding mechanism has a bit of play obviously, otherwise you would not be able to unlock it but the play is not noticeable while in the shooting position.
