All-New: Type 81M

Looks like we're in the same general area... I ordered on the first day, in the afternoon/evening 269xx. CP was a day late and if I didn't rush to the depot where they dropped off the order, I would have waited another day. Got it at 6:30pm without a paper notice delivered in my mailbox.

CP is really dropping the ball here, from what I'm reading. But this is normal for them unfortunately, anything that is "Card for Pickup", my tracking says "Notice left" and I go to my door and nothing is on the door or in the mailbox. This is normalcy... just doing the minimum. Scan the card but don't deliver it, type of sh!t. I told my buddy who works at CP and he chuckled.

So if you get a notice or don't after reading the Tracking, jump on CP Chat and find out the notice #, location of postal unit and call them. Might save you a day or two due to CP laziness.

Anyway, here's some T81M stuff for ya. (Mag isn't in properly so disregard that.)

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

No problem. That's what we're here for.

Took mine out.

Its official, I cant hit anything with iron sights on

Do you have old man vision like some of us or is there a QC issue? Some have stated the front sight has been well off true, which is not uncommon and wouldn't be a QC issue in most people's eyes.

I'm just hoping I can see the sights at the range, as I wanted a T81 so bad, knowing that I have issues with Iron Sights due to crappy bifocal type vision. If there's a Peep sight available, I'd probably go to that if things will be a problem as that tiny black on black notch vs front post isn't as easy as it was before.

We have warranty parts provided as part of shipment, but maybe it's something we can look for in the future :)

That's good to know. I could be interested in some of the scratch and dent stuff people return... just has to be structurally sound and priced right. One of my fave sets on my old VZ was a surplus set I got from the Czech Rep.

Sounds like buying an SKS sight tool from Amazon may be in your future, the T81s I shot were all way off from the factory.

Oh no. It's not the sights. It was an indoor range, a bit dark, and my eyes are a bit old.

Outside is a non issue, but a darker range and my crappy eyes work hard to find the blurry sights.

Update for #268xx was showing shipped in transit from Calgary March 20 then the delayed update. Today I see it's finally updated and showing in transit from Winnipeg MB.. I did add a slant compensator to the order not sure if the add ons potentially caused this?

I don't think so. TI doesn't have a warehouse in Winnipeg. I think this is just Canada Post being Canada Post. I order a lot of firearms stuff from AB and BC and it's usually a lot quicker and doesn't stop in Winnipeg.

Will probably get there eventually! Just very late.

Maybe they're doing an X-Ray on every parcel that looks like a Firearm at this point... don't know why CP has had so many countrywide delays. Since they stopped guaranteeing their Delivery Dates, it seems everything is out of wack.

Nothing to do with firearms but everything to do with the fact that nobody wants to work anymore.

Received my Type 81M underfolder yesterday. Ordered on March 12 so it took 14 days to get it to my local Post Office in Waterloo, Ontario. I also ordered a slant comp, sling and 2x5/5 extra magazines (they are really pinned 5/10 magazines; I don't quite understand why they designate them on their website 5/5. The other 2x5/30 mags are included in the price.
Everything was included in the package which was very well packed. Nothing missing. Shipped from Calgary. The rifle looks very well. It's phosphated but it is what it is. Everything is straight. The wire stock has a bit of play in the folded position but that's normal. It's very stiff in the open position. No play whatsoever. All magazines fit perfectly as well as a slant comp. Right away I paracord wrapped the left steel arm of the stock. It makes a very good cheek weld. I don't need anything else. It makes a very good sight picture. It is not as comfortable as a regular wood stock but not much worse.
What I don't like: rotary rear sight (never seen anything like that), charging handle which is a bit too short for my large size hands and pointing sharp ends on the folding stock rotating steel butt. I lightly filed those protruding parts right away to make them blunt. That rotary rear sight is a pain in the butt when you want to remove an upper handguard for cleaning the gas tube. It's much easier to do that on an SKS. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. Having said that, when you put the Type 81M side-by-side with a brand new Chinese Type 56 "French Tickler", the fit and finish on the Tickler are superb by comparison.

P.S. Trigger pull weight is 6.5-7 lbs on my rifle. Nothing to write home about but passable.

A few picks here:

Yes, I agree. With irons it is no issue but I see potential issues if I decide to mount optic to receiver mount. The windage would change with distance since optic and barrel are not aligned.

Thats not how optics work... once its zeroed its fine out to infinity.

I always thought that is the case with optics that are mounted square over the reciever, but with a side mount, that scope is now sitting slightly to the left of the barrel..this does have consequences.

So if you were to adjust the sidemount scope to reflect this by always maintaining the POI slightly to the right of the POA (parallel with the barrel), then it is indeed infinity.

But in theory, if your rifle was zeroed at say100 yards with POA and POI ecactly the same for that distance, that bullet will keep flying straight once it passes the set POA and eventually, with enough distance in will end up on the left side of the POA.

Being that the accuracy of these rifles is not that great, none of this likely matters, but if this were a precision setup, it might make a difference once at 500 yards or so.

Yo guys, anyone else missing accessories and have followed up with TI? It's been almost a week since i last followed up with them and still no update. Just want my sling and mounting screw for the rail so i can mount optics lol

Hi new to this stuff mostly jumped into it full send since the current gov really started changing the laws for gun control and their bs. I had an old blonde type 81 and loved the platform but the sights and looks of the new underfolders look too good to pass on. I'm way over in BC I also got a nice Mossberg and a few little things for now just trying to add to the list. And I do notice alot of people worried about the quality of these rifles. The LMG was a nicer build but honestly after getting into some B&T stuff these rifles for the price I don't complain. Now if some Swiss made masterpiece came loose around the joints I'd be pissed but for a $1200 stamped and rivet made unit I'd give some more leeway lol cheap ammo and reliability is the game for these beauties.

You know your way around......Welcome to the site, tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from, what you like to shoot ETC
