All purpose shotgun

Oh, I think LeBaron has had deals on three barrel combos for the 870 Express. I think they'd just be in 3" but that should serve you fine. I also noticed that the Mossberg $500combos are $489 at SFRC, while the Stevens 350 (with multichokes) is there for $199. I would highly recommend getting a shotgun with screw in chokes, especially if you want to use one gun for a variety of purposes.

For small game, a 2-3/4" 20 ga (or 12 ga.) would be fine. Getting a supermag pump is just a heavier gun to carry around, and upland hunting should be more accurately called 'carrying a gun all day and taking only a handful of shots'. Screw in chokes are nice to have, but full choke will do. You can find great deals on lightly used quality pumps, like a true Wingmaster, mossberg 500, Winchester 1200, etc.

If you're set on new, for my money, I'd avoid an 870 Express ESPECIALLY with Remington's Q.C. problems now.
