I think the book is the best.
But this new one is the worst of 3 movies made.
The book is very good. Haven’t seen the new movie yet.

But this new one is the worst of 3 movies made.
Finally finished it. Movie was sh$t in my opinion. Another wasted opportunity to have the money / budget / production potential to make an amazing movie but again falls short.
The obvious political addition to the movie was the Jewish member of the squadron in the film was a fictional character and meant to show to modern audiences that Jews had actually contributed to the war effort, contrary to what the German public were let to believe after the war. To me the lame part was that the story line was dominated by a romance for dramatic purposes.
But, I believe von Richthofen did loose his enthusiasm for the war closer to his death. Throughout his autobiography, the war is portrayed like it's all a game, a sporting hunt full of rules and chivalry. From what I've read of bits of his translated diary added in at the end of the later versions of the book which had been a home-front propaganda hit, it is understood that von Richthofen's view of the war did change after he returned to the front from his head injury and although he was excited that his his book the "Der Rote Kampfflieger" was such a success and even going to be published in England, he regretted the "insolence" expressed in it: "I now have the gravest feeling that people have been exposed to quite another Richthofen than I really am"
The nature of the air war had changed and become less of a sport: "I think of this war as it really is, not as the people at home imagine, with a Hoorah! and roar. It is very serious, very grim..."
The war went from being a big game to a grinding bloody struggle for national survival, Then he was killed in combat.
