I'm more of a fan of the older models than the newer ones. My first rifle was an AIII Sporter 30-06 that I traded off and reaquired about 20 years later. Extremely well built and classy. The 75 never really did much for me though I do remember being tempted by the stainless synthetic version due to it's grippy stock. I found the 85, at least, the versions that I was interested in, to be heavier than necessary for the chamberings offered (Black Bear and Kodiak). Mind you, heavier than necessary seems to be a hallmark of Sako over the years. Maybe if I truly had a hole in the safe to fill I would have been more interested, but I really didn't at the time, and still don't really now.

The 85's never really addressed that aspect
I have the AV , beauty to shoot , just a tad heavy to carry
And Oh , just my findings is Sako 85 list weight "with out" the steel magazine included .
I had a brand new , from dealership , home here for 3 days and finally figured out the weight diff from web site to real ...not a big deal and yet it can be if at limit you wanna carry and scope options

I’ve run through a bunch of Sakos but they tend to suffer the same fate as Hoyt’s for the same reason. My favourite probly the thin wristed fiberclass.
It was a fiberclass in .375 that cured my flinch. The darn thing just wasn’t consistent and I burned through components all one summer trying to build a load. Eventually got to where I knew I was no longer flinching, had the rifle re bedded and it shot well.

I have an 85 finnlight in 243 win I picked up from the EE a while back for island blacktail. I also traded a Steyr 450 marlin for an 85 kodiak in a brown bear laminate stock in 375 h+h to a good friend and CGN member who unfortunately passed away a year ago. I had both of them cerakoted burnt bronze by BlackBox customs.
I just sold an 85 stainless synthetic in 270 wsm. Great rifle with a barrel long enough to make the 270 WSM actually faster than a 270 win. Nothing wrong with it, just wanted to sell it as it was my only 270 WSM rifle.
No ejection issues on any of them.
I always thought I wanted a Bavarian carbine in 9.3x62 until I held one. There's just something off about the size of the stock. It seemed way too big compared to my cz550 FS (with the old, thin stock). The 85 kodiak in 375 h&h on the other hand, with it's 21in barrel and reasonable contour stock, feels great when compared to a cZ550 safari magnum. The latter's stock felt like a 2x6 and I sent it down the road.

I have an A7 roughtech pro 308. Love the bell and carlson stock on it. Better accuracy than the x-bolt medallion 308 I used before it. I got tired of the nice medallion stock hitting the tree stand as I climbed in and out and happy with the change.
Real nice iron sights on the 85 Bavarian Carbine challenging to use these & way handier feel unscoped.
