All Sako models

Many years ago first really quality rifle I bought was a Sako Finnbear 30/06. Tried it with several different factory loads and EVERYTHING shot into an inch or so shade more. I was to inexperienced to know how good that is and sold it stupidly.

I believe you , sako's are fantastic
hope you find another

I have a a7 roughtec pro in 300 win mag that will shoot .5 or better with 200 gr partitions. Only bullet I'll ever need from it. I think.
This gun has mag issues, sako replaced both my mags. No difference. Load 3 insert with bolt open never an issue. But insert full mag(3rounds) with bolt closed like you were gonna if you want 3+1 and it will not lift the rear of the first round that needs to come off the mag when you open the bolt. Piss poor spring. Shoots too good to get rid of. I will figure out a stiffer spring one day.

Also have a a7 roughtec range in 6.5 manbun that holds half moa to half a mile. 140 eldm and alot of h4350.

Heres mine

I’ve got 2 AV’s. The synthetic stock is a 338 Imp. Mag. (Similar to and actually the predecessor of the Rem RUM line.). Shoots half inch
The wood stock is a 30-06. Bought it cuz it’s really purdy and cuz I have a soft spot for Sako’s. I’ve never shot this gun but it was used when I got it.

I own, and have owned a few Sako rifles over the years. Great rifles, and would not hesitate to own more, as long as hey are left handed.
My first was a Finnbear Deluxe in 300 Win Mag.
Then I acquired a custom LH AV in 7MM STW. Most accurate rifle I own, and have taken over 30 animals with i the past 25 years.
I then bought the first LH Sako 85 VLA in 260 Rem in Canada. Beautiful rifle and accurate. Ultimately sold as it wasn't LH.
I have since acquired 3 LH Sako 85s:
1 - Hunter in 6.5x55. Very accurate out of the box with factory ammunition. Have taken a caribou with it. Originally scoped with a Swarovski, now has a Kahles w/ TDS reticle. Beautiful wood.
2 - Hunter in 9.3x62 w/ open sights. Very accurate with factory ammunition. Have taken a moose with it. Scoped with a Kahles 1.5-6x42. Beautiful wood.
3 - Finnlight II rebarreled with Wilson carbon fibre barrel in 338 Federal. Accurate and fairly light - scoped rifle weighs 7 3/4 lbs. Have taken moose and caribou with it.
I have also owned the only LH L691 FS Carbine I have ever come across (30-06). It had beautiful wood, but was heavy. Have sold it.

I would love to find a LH Carbonlite in the Smalla ction to rebarrel to 204 Ruger or 221 Fireball. Would make a nice light varmint rifle.

and...if they would be so kind as to consider the x39 case in that little carbon, for 6-arc and 6.5 grendel options...would crossover to legal hunting machines for big game nicely as well, ideal in a lightweight repeater of that sort of quality and magazine system...have drooled over the thought of that very rifle in 6.5g as a discerning gentleman's choice, of course I would not do it any justice ;)

would you be interesting in parting with the top one , upside down pic, LOL I have the same problemo ..if so pm me thanks

Spruster,
Sorry these rifles were gifts from the wife over the years, so are not for sale.
Took me over 20 years to acquire a LH 6.5x55...so I appreciate how difficult they can be to find!
I had originally ordered a 9.3x62 in a LH Bavarian, but Sako only ships 5 a year to North America, and they land in the US first, and if they have 5 orders, none make it to Canada. So after a couple years, I finally went with the Hunter, and was fortunate to get one with nice wood!
They both shoot 1/2" with factory ammo, and are fun to shoot!
Good luck in your quest!

If you are willing to pay the price and the import fees, there is a LH Finnlight II in 6.5x55 on GunBroker for $3,100 USD.

I have had half a dozen Sako's... A1, AV, 75... never owned an 85, but have been tempted many times. The problem with Sako's for me, is their retained value... whenever I have to free up some cash for a new project, I invariably have a competing rifle that has a lower resale value, so it makes sense to sell off the Sako for a higher return, ultimately all of the Sako's were sold. What I have left in the safe are a bevy of nice, solid hunting rifles, some are customized to my quirks, which unfortunately lowers their resale value making it more likely that they will stay in my cabinet. For most working stiffs, that do not possess "Eff-You" money, high value items eventual go to new homes as priorities change, not that Sako's are necessarily "high value" items, but it is comparative to other available options.

For no particular reason, except that they've been available, I've only ever owned Sako AV models. The action is solid, the trigger is easy to adjust, and the iron-sighted models have a classic appearance to me. The particular ones that I ended up keeping were the Fiberclass versions, my favourite being the short-barrelled Handy rifles. Here's my pair of 300WM and 338WM Handys:

Nice guns, any info on the mag conversion?

I always wanted a 338wm handy and ended up building my own with a modern McMillan with edge fill

My first Sako was an 85 Finnlight in 270WSM, an anniversary present from my wife. She topped it with a Swarovski Habicht, 3-10X40 and a German #4 reticle. It now sports a Swarovski Z3, 3-10X40 with a BRX. Unreal accuracy with 140 Accubonds.

The next was an 85 Bavarian in 375H&H with iron sights. I had set out for the Kodiak but the Bavarian appeared for a really good price. The stock was pretty but unpleasant to shoot so I swapped it out for a laminate and topped it with the aforementioned Habicht and German reticle. Unbelievably accuracy, shoots tight cloverleafs with 270 and 300 grain loads.

Third was an 85 Hunter in 300WSM. I had a Leupold VX2 on top but I never warmed up to this rifle and sold it soon after purchase.

Fourth was another Finnlight in 7-08 and another Swarovski. Although it was a beautiful rifle I always grabbed the 270WSM so I sold it.

Fifth was an 85 Bavarian-Carbine in 30-06. I took this rifle with a Leica on a trade. Although the Leica was nice, it was too heavy for my liking so I added a Swarovski Z3, 3-9X36, German #4 reticle. Again, amazing accuracy with 180 and 190 grain loads.

Next I found an 85 Stainless-Synthetic in 270Win for a really good price. I had intended it to be used for my 35Whelen build but when I took it to the range, the accuracy was spectacular so I could not bring myself to dismantling it for my build. I added a Z3 Swarovski, 3-10X42, BRH. I have used it for a few deer hunts and my Pronghorn last year but this is primarily my son's rifle.

The last was an 85 BlackWolf in 7RemMag. I was not really a fan of the BlackWolf stock so I dropped it into a McMillan McSwirly with Edge fill and added a Z5, 3-18X44 with BRX.

If I were to acquire another Sako, it will be either a 75 or 85 Finnlight in 308Win. The price boost of the new 90 is too much. Sako makes a nice rifle but the 90s are not worth the asking price and the modular 100 is both ugly and ridiculous.

very good to hear all the 85 model want and got/likes . Heard they had an ejection issue .
My next Sako want is a Bavarian 85, in 30-06 or 300 Wsm
They make some of the nicest wood stocks ever ....JMO
