Alot of scopes are just rebadged.

Yup, each to their own. When I could start affording Leupolds and mostly hunted at the time I bought them for my hunting rifles. Honestly one of the big reasons was looks. I like how they look. The performance was beyond what I needed and liked the warranty. Now I have been getting into target shooting more and branched out to other brands again. Mostly because of the price point of the target leupolds. I have also seen lots of cheaper scopes hold their zero year after year without issue. Just like cars most will get you from a to b but everyone has preferences and different circumstances.
You bring up another aspect of scope use.... if all you do is dial in your favorite hunting load and don't adjust it after that for years or decades it's a different use case to someone that wants to often dial in different distances and have a reliable return to zero.

Well, Leupold makes a scope for the hunter and they market it as the CDS system.
Might no be what you are looking for, but it is a viable option for many hunters .
As an aside point, should this thread not be in the optics sub forum?

Hey TRIGGERHAPPYHIPPY, not every thread has to be about politics.
Believe it or not, some of us (who by the way are actively involved in politics and read every political thread), need a break from the constant barrage of political threads and want to just think about fun stuff for a little while.
Go start another political thread, and I might respond to it, but leave politics out of it on this one. Enough for a while.

Leupold is very much a love hate for me, much like vortex.
Personally I would never buy one, not to say they suck or anything but its a each to their own.
Not big on anything they offer feature wise. A Swarovski z3 or z5 Imo is far better when comparing similar priced offerings.
Personally Ive switched over to NF, Steiner, and Swarovski.

I also agree with the others depends on the use of the scope for a range rifle/ coyote gun/ gopher gun.. its like whatever.
Back in the day wholesale sports used to have the bushnell .22 scopes with rings for 30$, used to sell a ton of them and I still have them on
rifles, nothing fancy but they worked just fine for plinking.

Another thing to remember this sport/hobby has gone crazy in cost over the last bit. ammo to rifles to optics and gear are insane.
Having said Im not judging anyways decisions there's clearly options out there across the board.
Just be happy to get out and shoot while we still can 😁

I have been following backfire when the chubby guy was also the co-host of the channel. It must be nice living in Utah and driving out to the dessert and shooting 5-6-7 hundred yards. Good channel good content.

Thanks Rob, I'm not looking for a scope right now, Leupold is one of the lighter weight options out there which is appealing for people looking to keep the weight down, I don't feel like Leupold is on the cutting edge these days but I'd expect them to return to zero.... :)

Well said. I was about to say the very same thing. Take the politics to the political thread.

This is why they got away with everything they have.
Complacency
Distractions.
I don't claim to be the messiah, but if folks can't see what is coming, they deserve what they get.
Our governments literally are responsible for many dead.
Sheila Annette Lewis died because organ transplants were banned for the unvaccinated, and most people aren't concerned.
The UN has a 170 page document that outlines replacing our population with 3rd world immigrants, that our political parties (yes the CPC ) signed us onto.
We have CSIS literally reporting there are traitor MPs in Ottawa beholden to foreign countries.
What will it take for peÄ·ople to quit arguing about what scope or rifle is needed to kill big game and get invested in our country
Ignorance is bliss.
What kind of scope do you use ?

I wasn't pimpin The Big L , just saying there are options for those who are looking.
There are those who know what they are looking for and do not come here to CGN to poll the masses on what to buy to fit in.
I'm just stating the obvious for those of us (you included) that know what we are looking for.

If you buy a cheap scope then warranty is good to have. Many scope companies have different lines of scopes from inexpensive to $$$$. I tend to avoid the bottom end of any line but if that's all your budget allows for, then get one with a good warranty.

You are free to buy what ever you want. This post is not intended to insult you, it is just my opinion formulated from over 40 years of buying optics. You don't have to justify why you cheapo out.
No "buts" from me for spending big money on scopes. You get what you pay for. Unless it is an affordability issue, I can't for the life of me understand why anybody would cheapo out on optics.
If you want to educate yourself on the differences between a cheapo scope and a good one, go to this website and read this article:
Journalofmountainhunting.com
Gear section
page 7, titled BEYOND THE GLASS

You will see that there is a reason why some scopes cost a lot more than others.
Great article

This has been known for a long time. There are very few actual scope manufacturers, and even fewer glass companies. Most companies that "build" their own scopes are doing so out of glass packs and erector tubes and turrets etc that are made for them by someone else, oftentimes sourcing parts from different companies to make a single scope.

Here is a list of most of the OEMs out there and the brands/models of scopes they build, it's not fully up-to-date with the latest and greatest but does a good job of showing off which OEMs make which "tiers" of scopes.
https://sageratsafaris.com/category/optics-oem/

As a rule of thumb, I'd take anything LOW-built over anything else out there if I have the choice, but I don't always get to because Nightforce and Trijicon scopes aren't always in the budget.

Japanese glass is usually really good. Swarovski will use Japanese glass too.
Some of the best grinders in the world are in Japan. I know, sorry, knew a lady that needed an extremely complex grind for the lenses in her glasses to see, they could only get them in Japan, as an example. - dan

If you can point me to a rebadged Bushnell Elite made in Japan today that retails for $250 or less I'm all ears lol.
Even a Nikon Prostaff 2 made in Philippines that retails for $150 I'd be quite happy to pick up several lol.
There are cheapish Burris, Vortex, etc made in Philippines, but they don't have the eye relief and clarity of the Nikon's.

Is it "vortex glass" though?
Or is vortex running "cabelas glass" lol

Lots of scopes made by a third party with fourth party supplies for whomever ordered to their specs, which also doesn't mean they are the same lenses with the same coatings in all of the scopes. Sure, the tube may look the same....
We will never know. Except I can say the the glass and eye relief in the Cabelas is far better than any Burris, Bushnell low-end scope I've looked through.

Yup this may or may not rock your world.
But most scopes come from factories and are rebranded accordingly.
Like Cabelas Intensity is made by vortex and is sold for half the price of a vortex.
I use Intensity's on all my rifles. 160 bucks and they work great up to medium sized calibers.

Jim at Backfire finally gets it.
It’s not made by Vortex. Vortex makes very little of its own product. It’s made by LOW, who also manufacture for Vortex.
