Alot of scopes are just rebadged.

People who want to bet they may need warranty on their complex optical devices.

The manufacturers with great warranty service bet you won't need it, and they're mostly right.

All charge enough for products to cover warranty work as a matter of course. Or they don't last long.
Unless you buy a Vortex. Then you’re guaranteed to need it.

Lots of yeah buts from guys who paid 600 bucks for a scope re-branded for 200-300.
Always good to do your research before dropping big money.
The Cabelas Intensity 4-12x44 for $159 bucks is a steal. I have 7 of them. Not one issue. 3yrs running. As I said Vortex glass.....
You can pay what you wish. I prefer lower prices not names.
Caveat emptor
There’s no such things as, “Vortex glass”.

I just bought a Leupold VX3HD 3.5-10x40 il. Fire dot bla bla bla…. My first new Leupold, the price was right for me and the features were what I wanted( cds turrets I dont care for but it is what it is) and they are the lightest I can find, I never had a problem with Leupold scopes yet and I had them for a long time!!
I wanted a Swarovski but the price ain’t quite the same… so I settle on that one!
Sorry I didn’t ask anyone here what they thought… my bad

I was looking for pistol and scout scopes. Searched all across Canada and couldn’t find what I wanted in stock so I bought a used Vortex off of GP. I ended up buying a couple more because they were available. For the price they work well. Are they as good as my Bushnell elite pistol scopes, no when you can’t find what you want sometimes get what you can.
As far as my current buys on new scopes go I bought 3 Bushnell Nitros over the last few months. I like them. Larger than what I am use to but they will see primarily range use so weight and size isn’t really an issue.

If you can point me to a rebadged Bushnell Elite made in Japan today that retails for $250 or less I'm all ears lol.
Even a Nikon Prostaff 2 made in Philippines that retails for $150 I'd be quite happy to pick up several lol.
There are cheapish Burris, Vortex, etc made in Philippines, but they don't have the eye relief and clarity of the Nikon's.
I just sold one on EE for $200. Elite 3500, 3-9x40. No wonder it went within hours! I should have upped the price. lol. It was never used, just bore sighted on a rifle. It came with it's original box and wrappers. It only had rings mounted and had minor ring marks. No scratches or dings. It was immaculate. I basically bought out Tradex's entire inventory of Elite 3500's, but only needed 4 of them.

I attacked those too lol. Lots of the gloss 3-9x40 and the nice short 2.5-10x40's on my rifles here. Was a deal for sure.

I miss having Nikon as an option, the Monarch line in particular. They offered great value.

Something else worth noting when considering different scope brands is that there is a pretty significant degree of confirmation bias in online gun communities, especially with scopes. CGN, 24hr, Rokslide, LRH forum, Sniper's Hide, Reddit communities, etc. Opinions and general consensus on one forum will get you laughed out of an optics conversation on another.

So if you are considering a scope, regardless if its something from one of these new "manufacturers of the week" or some old junk people still fawn over, it's a good idea to get multiple perspectives on what best meets your needs.

Who buys a scope for the warranty?
As they were leaving the rifle scope market, I avoided buying the last run of Nikon scopes because they had voided their warranties. If I hadn't known that, I would most certainly have bought one.

It’s not just low end that use cheap manufacturers to produce products. I recently purchased a rangefinder Leica CRF 2400. Light and compact and appropriate for my needs. Defective out of the box and come to find out it’s made by LEUPOLD! If I’d have known that it would’ve never darkened my doorstep. Lesson learned, find out the manufacturer of what your buying!!

Made by Leupold, or Made under license from Leupold? If Leica is making something covered under a Leupold patent, it would be Made under license from Leupold, even if manufactured by Leica.

To be honest with you, I’ll have to get the book out. Between the frustration of it not working I just placed it all out of sight so I didn’t end up smashing it to pieces. Bought a Leica mount to put on my CF tripod and an Arca adapter so I can have a rifle and the rangefinder on the tripod together. Frustrating but shxt happens.

It would appear that some of the fellas posting were physically abused by Vortex and still bear heavy emotional scars. That level of vitriol doesn't come from a cheap scope failing...
It sure does, hunting with a scope rifle combo that was function checked at the range 24 hrs previous to hunting and now watching a magnificent Buck walk out and present a clear safe ethical shot close enough for a 7 iron on a Par 3 hole, only to have your projectile fly off to God knows wherever.
That will make you hate a brand for life.
