Alright, its desion time!

and mikeystew he will trade it when it is on sale (coming up here) so it might be say 479 on trade vs the full 525. get what im sayin??

Still... That's one heck if a deal. I'd take it just because. Mind you I'd it were me I'd swap, then turn around and sell the Sr in the EE for $500, and buy myself a CZ.... But that's me.

Your only a couple degrees of Kevin bacon from a real nice gun dude!

There is logic here. I wish that dealer was close to me, I'd be at his door allot...trading-up! :) Seriously though, you sound like a smart young man, and the fact that you feel some attachment to your first rifle is admirable. Provided you're aware of the limitations of Ruger 10/22s (at the heart of an SR22) then I'd say go for it. Even I've felt tempted looking at those things, then I remember how I couldn't hit a pop can with my 10/22 off a rest at 50 yards. Well I could...but it would take a few tries and a little luck.

Do yourself a favor and don't get cheap, high-cap mags for it. You'll probably enjoy your 10/22 more using the reliable 10-round factory ones.

Thanks .22lrguy. My buddy bought a sr-22 here a month ago and didnt even tell me, untill i asked if he had heard of em! He said that gun is a blast, he has a 25 shot clip and a red dot scope and just loves it. Im going to take both guns (.17 and sr-22) shooting tomorrow and see how i like it. No point in trading something if you dont like what your trading for

That the best thing to do if you have the opportunity. It best to handle a rifle before you buy it, even better to shoot it if you get the chance.

Only you will know what is the right choice for yourself.

Oh by the way, some people get really miffed if you call a "detachable magazine" a "clip". Not a big deal to me but just in case some internet expert give you hassle.

Calling it a "clip" was how I was raised.

But then I was also raised in an atmosphere that used the wrong term for various ethnic groups.;)

Most casual hunters/shooters call it a clip. Most knowledgeable folks call it by its proper name in order to differentiate between a detachable magazine and an actual clip (stripper clips, enbloc clips ect.)

It's just as easy to say mag as it is clip, so why not?

I'll put up 50 bucks towards an SR 22 so you can keep your bolt gun as well. If 10 people here do the same, you're more or less good to go. Anybody in?

what exactly do you mean?? you guys dont need to feel sorry or nothing. I was just wondering that everyone thought

Right now i have a Savage 93R17 FV, decked out to the whole 9 yards. My thing is that it costs so much to shoot that i cant afford to shoot it. Do i trade it on a Ruger SR-22 (if i do trade it, that will be what i trade it on). I like the gun, just cannot afford to shoot it. I hardly even get to shoot it anymore (shot 6 times in 2011). Should i trade it?

Drop the .17 rimfire like a hot rock, and get any .22 rimfire.

You can shoot a LOT when you can find ammo for $20-$30 a brick.

My experience with a 10/22 as a gopher patch gun is...I'm happy with it. Enough first round hits at 100 yards, to call it good. Agree with the aftermarket mags thing. Careful what you buy. Some work, others look cool but don't work. Factory 10's have always been reliable.

Personally, I think you did yourself a disservice buying the HMR first off, without looking hard at the running costs. Call it a life lesson, learn from it, and move on.

'Course, I hear guys whining at work pretty regularly, about how much it costs to run their 400+ HP trucks to and from work, and driving around town, too...Some folks never bothered to learn to look at the whole cost when they chose...

Me, I'd take the trade in a heartbeat. If it doesn't work out, there are lots of options from there. Both in terms of it's increased value over what you are trading in, and in the many many directions you could possibly trick it out in.

As far as the emotional attachment goes. Not much use to you, if you can't get out and shoot regularly, is it?

It's a gun. You can buy another just like it later, if you so desire when the time comes.

And work on the Folks, over the whole 'one gun or the other, not both' thing. :D

Good!

Sit and have a think about what you want it for, and why the SR22 dress up kit may or may not fit with that.

If you just want it, that a valid reason too, but if you want the SR for the pistol grip and options to use the expensive add-on stuff, that's different than just wanting a gopher patch gun you can afford to shoot.

Lotsa ammo in the price difference between a basic 10/22 and the SR. No difference in the terminal effects on the gopher's end of the game.

Keep in mind that any flavor of 10/22 you get can either be a satisfactory toy as-is, or an endless money-sink, that never turns out perfect no matter what you do. You get to decide.

I wanted a heavy barrel for mine, years ago. Still have not bothered, it works pretty good as it is.

Still ponderin' if I need a SR with a fixed type AR stock and a scope for the next trip to the gopher patch, though. :)

Cheers
