Alternative to SAGE for M14

Im going the cheap route right now and moding a USGI fibreglass with a adapter, till I can buy a sage stock that uses AR15 buttstocks.

Other DIYselfers have mated AR 15 telescoping buttstocks onto M-14 front ends ... the resulting FRANKENstocks may be even fuglier than the Sage, but as the great philosopher Forrest Gump would say,
"beauty is as beauty does".
Personally, I find the SAGE muzzle heavy, klunky and slow, however I am in the process of cutting up a fiberglass USGI stock [ just for the bedding surfaces ] and some aluminum square tubing, to make a
LAZ/SAGACIOUS FUGLY stick.
Not sure yet whether it will be side folder or telescoping.
Stay tuned ... I'll post DIY instructions if I ever get it finished.

I have shot my Sage in BCRA Service Matches and it preformed well.
Now as a CQB rifle, it is slow and heavy.But as a DMR rifle (that was it's main intention), it is the cat's ass!!!!!
No businesses in Canada are carrying the Sage AFAIK.

Here is a pic of a couple of 14's with M4 type collapsible stocks. The black one in the foreground is a Sparrowhawk that cost about $400 US with all the goodies. The ugly 3 colour camo job at back is almost identical to the black one. I made this one myself for about $275 CDN. USGI FG stock, Remi 870 tactical stock adaptor w/pistol grip, M4 six position collapsible stock w/cheek rest and rubber butt pad, lower front handguard with vertical grip and an Outers bipod.
Aside from being way cheaper, it was fun to do and fairly easy. I am in the process of building a side folder using ACE and Armstech hardware with an ACE skeleton stock. If it works out the way I think it will, I'll also be able to put the folding stock mechanism on the ugly green one as well.
Since that pic my painting has gotten better, for surely it couldn't get any worse.

Humm the shotgun adapter/M4/M14 USGI stock chimera is interesting, cause I already have that adapter setup on my Rem870.
Is there any permanent change made to the shotgun adapter that will prevent it from being used again on the rem870 ?
The Troy system isn't the prettiest thing; it's hard to tell there's an M14 underneath it...and still quite expensive for me (795$ usd)... but at the same time, it's surely of great quality and will probably start a trend with other manufacturers, such as ARMS, DD, LaRue, YHM and so on.

I'm planning to do exactly what Turf did. I've got the stock sitting here waiting for me to get of my keester.
Turf, any close ups of the adaptor/stock mating on the Fugly Green Giant? I'm reluctant to cut my stock before I have a really good look at it.

Impact Guns in the only place in the US that seems to have a sniff about the CBR stock, and here's the response I got last week from them.

Sniper1, Nope there aren't any mods that you have to do to the adaptor itself. There is some grinding/carving (dremel) to the stock after it's cut to ensure a flush fit. The adaptor can be remounted to your 870 just fine.
The main concern is getting the proper cant to the adaptor with the pistol grip attached in relationship to the trigger guard before scribing your cutting mark. You don't want it mounted too close to the guard or you'll have problems removing the trigger assembly for cleaning.
I went with the Remi 870 adaptor because I have the 870 shotgun and a model 7600 Police .308 and can swap it from one to the other. If I had wanted a permanent solution I think I may have used the Mossberg adaptor with a stock bolt and epoxy. You can see the difference in the 2 adaptors by going to;

Tritium, I'll take some measurements and write a detailed report and post it a little later on this thread. One thing I did find when I cut the USGI stock was that it was a bit spongy in the center where I drilled for the stock bolt. With the inletting for the adaptor and a good tight bolt it did give me a solid fit. A more permanent solution would be to use epoxy as well.

I have fairly large hands and find the grip OK for me. It might be uncomfortable for someone with smaller hands though. The Mossberg adaptor however has slightly different dimensions pushing the pistol grip a little more forward toward the trigger, as seen in the pic of the black Sparrowhawk. Also as you might have noticed, the drop (cant) of the stock is greater on the Sparrowhawk. Having fired the Sparrowhawk I decided less of a drop was the way to go for me. This also pushed the grip back a bit but gave me the sight lineI wanted when I put on the cheek rest.
