Went out hunting last weekend. Had a chance to check my zero on Saturday morning. Took one shot, 1/2" low and left. Close enough.

The interesting part happened next. I go to eject the cartridge and lo and behold the case doesn't eject. I had pull the bolt out the back to remove it. And THEN I had to disassemble my bolt to fix the problem, because my bolt head was backwards! Lol Looks like I fkked up putting it together last week... And it's a good thing I keep a tool box in the truck that just happened to have the right size allen key, cause that's not in my hunting kit...

So there you have it. My little story about why you should always function test your stuff before you actually need it.

More like if you don't know how to put something together properly, don't take it apart. lol

Too true,

What caliber?

I'm going to guess you have a long action caliber, and your bolt baffle is turned the wrong way. Just below the bolt head is a piece that turns, and one side is a bit longer. That piece contacts the bolt stop. If you have the long side contacting the bolt stop it will not pick up long action cartridges properly because the bolt can't travel far enough back.

If you don't know any better, it's easy to fk this up when reinstalling the bolt.

did you bag anything?

Negative. The bears were nowhere to be seen.

At least you fixed it before you needed that second shot, it could have ruined your day under other circumstances.

Yupp. Could have been trouble if I didn't realize my mistake until after I had taken a shot at game. Hence the reminder to others to check their #### lol

And I'm sure you've never made a mistake in your entire life.... Live and learn man, live and learn...

Good Reminder to all, check your kit early & often.
Familiarity & recency, very important to know your equipment & keep those muscle memory skills sharp.

There are many things that are harmless to experiment with, that won't hurt you if you make a mistake, firearms are not one of them.

Good judgement is the result of bad experience, which is the result of bad judgement! I've lived by these words for years and my own experiences have taught me the truth of that. I ALWAYS make sure I'm sighted in and every works as it should at least 2 weeks before hunting season. After I'm sighted in, I let the rifle cool, clean the bore with a bore snake, and take one last shot to see if a "cold bore" shot will hit my target.
