Am I Crazy? Traded a Browning for a Baikal

I am sure everyone on this exchange has made a deal at some point that the rest of us would deem as crazy....I know I have but as long as you are happy and the gun fits that's all that matters.

Enjoy the Baikal.

Not only are you crazy but you are the smartest Hagen ,and Doc and Matt will come along later and tell you that if it makes you happy then it can't be wrong. I think Sherill Crow actually said that, but it works for everyone!

I know you made someone very happy.

Bob:)

I know you made someone very happy.

Yeah, a gun shop in Orillia!!

They even questioned me on the trade.... oh well it all works out, I was given a free Citori but it will saty in my father's name until the day he dies, Which I hope is along time down the road as he just retired and took a renewed interest in hunting.

Just wait until I post pics of the Citori when it comes back from Ceracoating! then you will really think I am nuts.

Anyone else shooting an MP-153?

I've been shooting my MP-153 a fair bit in the last month. With the gas system all cleaned up the gun gives the occasional short cycle with those wimpy Federal 2-3/4 dram 1-1/8 oz target shells, but it eats them up just fine when it gets dirty. I can only surmise that the extra carbon in the gas system increases the back pressure enough to give reliable cycling. The gun works 100% with my 1oz reloads and Remington and Winchester target shells. Solution: I just don't clean the guts of the gun as often.

I'd like to go back to shooting my reloads, but with lead at retarded prices it's cheaper to shoot factory shells.

I'm glad to hear that "bill c68" finally lost "money" on a gun deal as he generally comes out ahead!

But hey, you got a good rugged gun, although one of less resale value. And now you can fire those screaming fast 3-1/2" shells if you want to.

Too bad you didn't wait to sell the Browning at Savage Harbor Arms now that Leo is once again open for business. I think it would have sold pretty quick this time of year for decent money and you could have bought an MP-153 and been $ ahead of the game.

Pretty sure if your going to use your Baikal as a walking stick or as an emergency oar you'll love the synthetic stock over the walnut. But you definitely left money on the counter when you walked out the door with your Baikal. That said I've owned a fair share of Baikals and still do. Their excellent shotguns for the money and work just as good as some higher priced ones that I've owned. Not that Gold will ever be a collector, but in my book a Browning will always beat a Baikal in a game of tradesies. Not crazy... just a gun nut!

I would have had a very hard time trading a Browning for a Baikal, at least straight across. But, as long as you are happy with the deal, it is a good deal.

Just got my Baikal today... nice gun, I have handled a few before but never a 24", I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 24" model has a parker like finish on the bbl, or at least a matte black finish.
The gun will be even sweeter when I chop a half inch from the stock... man I wish we had a decent gun shop around here... I need a new pad for the modification.

Anyway, I guess it wasn't quite a straight trade, Epps credited me enough to get an extra choke tube and $25 shipping, so I guess, I am about $60 ahead.
A dealer has to make something on a trade... So I figure I lost about $100-$200.
Had I bought a new Baikal it would have been about the same, but then I would have to run 3-4 boxes of heavy #### through it for a break in.
