Am I crazy?

Further...

The way I see it... your centerfire line-up is full of holes... no .22 cal, no 6.5mm, no 7mm, no 8mm, no .338, no .35 cal, no 9.62mm, no .375, no pistols carbines, no .45/70... you have a lot of work to do mister! And now you are talking about getting the one you don't need and getting rid of two that you do need... ur going the wrong way! U need an intervention...

I have to respectfully disagree with you hoyt, he will also eventually need a .27 cal, and a .25 cal how else will he ever truly know for himself which is better for deer .25-06 or .270 and .270 vs .280 a gun nut of your experience should know this. These are personal important life altering decisions that are as personal as picking a spouse.

What size does a 270 bullet mic out at ? Is it actually within the size requirements ?

Is the Win 270 not actually .277 dia???
I am far from an expert on Provincial rules and Regs in Ontario and even a little less of an expert when it comes to reading a Caliper
I do recall that a .270 is actually .277 though...
Then again I may be incorrect though.
Rob

.270 is a great caliber and will do the job. But you are crazy selling off the others. A true gunnut would have them all.

Some are simply hunting nuts, and while I'd love to claim I'm simply a hunting nut and not a gun nut too, I'd be sorely misleading myself. For those that it's just a simple tool, I actually have a good deal of respect!

My thinking is if you start at .22 cal's and then go up in 1/2 mm increments... you should have everything prettt much covered... that does leave out the quarter bores and .270, but we all know they are only for the truly twisted...

For the love of all humanity, can we please stop all this talk about "one do-it-all gun." I am too old to change and don't want to have to find a new hobby...

I have owned, shot, and hunted with many different caliber rifles over the past 50 years, from 222 Rem to 458 Winchester. Have killed many tons of truly big game using rifles from 270 Win to 375 H&H.

It is my distinct impression that I have killed, and seen killed, more game with a single shot using the 270 Winchester than any other cartridge. That includes the second largest moose I ever killed, and that using a 130 gr Silvertip loaded ahead of 62 gr of surplus H4831.

You are making a very prudent, rather than a crazy, decision.

Ok..... op.... I will fill you in since I am admittedly near the beginning of my rifle adventure thanks to the fine folks at cgn....

First you need the basics..... .17..... .22...... .223....... .243..... .257 roberts...... 7mm-08 ..... .308 or 30 aught 6....... 338..... 358 ..... 45 / 70..... then you need to buy a good reloading kit..... then you need to decide you may hunt grizzly and get a wagner..... then you need to think you need to one day hunt africa and get a 375 h and h...... then you need to realize that, since you reload, your rounds are cheap so you need to start stuffing calibers between the ones you already own.... (ruger number 1s are perfect for this)..... I am only almost halfway through this journey. ... let me know if you need help from a novice.....
