Am I out of touch?

I’ve bought and sold more firearms over the past 20 years than I’d like to admit!

Some of the prices I’m seeing for rifles in the EE these days seem very very high to me…

Ordinary rifles that people are asking over 2-3 times what I would consider a reasonable price. These aren’t collector pieces (despite what the ad may say) - run if the mill calibres such as 308 Win.

I would point some of the ads out but don’t want to over step etiquette.

The prices for everything are insane.

I'm selling a rifle right now for probably double the price it should be, and I bet the factory pumped out that same rifle for about 80 bucks.

The AR15 tax we pay in this country is criminal (ie. the costs we pay for Ar15 platform alternatives).

That being said, the little bit of money for selling the rifle, isn't anywhere near as valuable as the rifle itself. IMo, the problem is with our crap government, weak money, stagnant incomes and even worse cost of living.

Sucks to read these things. Guess im in no rush for the EE access then. Must admit i was excited

EE is still amazing. I was just coming back to post about how I'm trying to sell a couple guns, like a bunch of other guys are at the moment (seasonal thing, post Christmas or whatever). But there are actually a ton of great rifles up for sale right now. The prices are still a bit high, but once they sit for a bit and if the market saturates a bit more, there are going to be some awesome deals.

I'm trying to sell some guns, not buy more, haha! There are some type 81s, x95s and tavor 7s that if they come down even by a few hundred bucks, are gonna sell like that!

** the price of 10/22's is what's insane. Those things and their market equivalents should be no more than $300, yet most are selling for an arm and a leg.

I've noticed pages and pages of individual sellers trying to sale their firearms; obviously there is a reason they are not selling. What is classified utilitarian firearms are selling for a thousand bucks or more. Moreover, EVERYTHING has increased in price, and a sharp increase. On-the-other-hand, I prefer to purchase older rifles which have better quality and craftsmanship than modern day JUNK rifles.

Just because it is listed for a extremely high price doesn’t mean it is sold for that price. No one has bought it if the ad is still up.

This. I know of an Airgun forum keeps all sale ads up, for market value reference. I kept on telling them, just because it is listed for X amount, doesn't mean it is worth that much.

I ran across alot of ads, where people are just too lazy to delete them.

Doesn't mean all Ads are like this. I picked up a 1200$ pistol, for 3rd of what it costs.

Future currency will be barter (?): fuel, clean water, food, ammo, guns, survival gear, and quality clothing/footwear. Paper money will be used for a$$wipe and to start fires. Maybe my foil lined hat is influencing me? ;)

Inflation is real, be it on the EE or anywhere else.
Not long ago a Sako 85 was a very high price point for a bolt action rifle, today it’s a bargain with all the $3000+ rifles available from everyone.
I never saw that coming.
Every time I think the market is at the top of the bubble it just pushes further up…
How people can justify it and pay for it eludes me but profit is not illegal and something is worth what the market will bear.
If only we inflated the value of ourselves (wages) at an equal pace…

Definitely.

Seems with the rising prices of goods in general, that the others point out, people are looking to make more on their firearms. Within reason, I really can't blame them. And if you're cool with waiting, you'll likely get your money.

Within reason.

The number of people stretching that beyond the boundaries of reason does seem higher yes, and the value of some rifles seems to be shooting upwards.

Not everything is over/priced, and yes I’d rather pay 1,500 for a 40 year old steel and wood rifle, rather than the same (or more) for a new factory rifle in most cases.

Just that I’ve noticed an increase in asking prices that are out to lunch lately. And yes - if they are priced stupid high they just won’t sell.

I recently did three transactions on the EE, sold a rifle scope combo plus another scope, then bought a scope, all three transactions were reasonable I think, and what I bought and sold was listed for less than a few hours[no replies, still on page one], I was happy they were happy. I have also listed rifles for what they were worth to me, and have left them up for a few weeks before giving up on selling them. There are a few rifles that I have bought that I am very happy I bought when I did as the rise in retail prices have caused a corresponding rise in used prices. I once bought a Rossi Ranch Hand on sale just before they spiked in price, shot it a few times and discovered I didn't like it even with an added full stock. I posted about the sale price here when I bought it and when I listed, it sold very quickly but not before I got a hate filled message from a potential buyer that resented I was selling for what I had payed [He is still on ignore]. My normal behaviour has been to buy high and sell low, like many if I see a rifle I want I will probably pay above market value. This irrational tendency has slowed a bit as I now only buy something if I sell something and I like what I have, and I find selling stressful [Canada Post, answering messages, was my description accurate etc.]. So if it is too expensive don't buy it, if you can stop yourself.
