Reading through lots of post and EE add and I'm noticing that everyone is easily getting 1/2MOA with their factory Mossberg and blue box ammo. I own a couple nice (expensive) rifles with Shilen or Benchmark or Rock Creek or Proof barrels with Stiller or Bighorn or Niseka actions and shoot a fair bit. But find it hard to actually get loads and barrels to consistently shoot 1/2MOA....sure I hit the odd 5shot group at 400-800 yards that measure in that range. What am I doing wrong???

Does my reloading need work or my story telling?

Advice and ridicule wanted...

Try shooting only 2 shot groups or if you do shoot a 3 shot group then throw the “flyer” away in your measurement. Never shoot 5 or 10 shot groups for accuracy

The best true results are where a shooter puts 5 groups on one sheet of paper to get into the sticky threads. You cant really fake those.

For instance the stock hunting rifle 3/4in group at 100 yds thread. Only 7 people on it from what i recall.

Whatcha need is an old cooey 22 rifle .. to besure its you and not the rifle
Cause those will drive every shot inta the same hole a 50 yards according to some.

Lolol

Factory do 1/2 moa is a fishing story forsure

I think we belong in the same club. I've never posted any of my 1/2 minute groups cause I have to crop out the 3/4 - 1.5 moa groups off that target and that's just not honest. Can my 700p throw a 1/2 moa group? Absolutely! But it will be mixed in with a handful of 3/4 moa and a pile of 1+ moa groups. Some days I can't even get 1 moa out of myself and my equipment. But I could care less what the internet thinks of my shooting, I'm just here to learn and enjoy.

Yup, your doing something wrong. My sub 2000 shoots 1/2 MOA at 100 yards all day long. Yeah there is usually 18 flyers but that 2 round group is worth it. Try using more emotion and less common sense. Works for everything these days!

It is very telling when you look at the 1/2" challenge.

27 confirmed people.

And the 1/2 MOA at 300yard thread... a handfull...

Improve your "story Telling" and your groups will improve immensely! Trust me, I know.. lol

Must have been something wrong with your sub2000. The one I had would shoot 1/4 inch center to center 100 round groups.

I shot into space once as well, hit the S in NASA on the satellite I was aiming at I still have the parts that broke off, re-entered, and landed in my back yard. Looks pretty cool.
I used my rusty old 22LR pump action to do it. Those CCI Stinger's have some zip!

Blackburbot, it must be you, I've seen your rifles and they sure do look nice but I guess money can't buy skill :p

Thanks, needed a laugh.

When are we going shooting? I'm off for 2 weeks starting Monday.

I consistently shoot 1/4 MOA one shot groups ant any yardage.

Me too, my best groups are always one shot groups.
I hit what I was aiming at the first time, I feel like I'm showing off if I do it again. :p

Yessir, that cooey is the litmus test for accuracy
.. good to shoot hoggs to be butcherd on the farm butya better have the barrel close.. or risk shootin the pigs ear oft

Oh that reminds me.. one time, helpin a friend shoot his hoggs.. he says bring a 410 with slugs cause thats how u doit according to his book. Umm ok yep well try
Takes aim .. i says holdit, that the wrong spot
He says that the book told him to shoot the hog in the ear towards the brain ( oh boss, im nottoo sure about that ...gotta shootin in the butchers cross ..)
So he goes ahead
Padooom
falls over flop, n not movin so i guess i was wrong
Couple minutes and his legs start movin
His uncle walks up .. stares at
Eyup, that hog aint dead.. goddamit you better shootim before he gets up
No.. he cant doit, lost his nerve... so you doit
Gimme that... need to do it properbetweenbthe eyes n a little up. ( no problem done it before but remember theres another hole in this equation )
Padoomm... ppsshhhhhhhh
Much to my surprise, 180 gr slug will cause significant pressure and cause the brain to vapourize and exit the previous bullet hole with velocity
..showering the shooter and bystanders with a pink mist of goo n bits

I tell this story to show the value of the cooey 22 .. cause if wed used that, we would have been spared blood brain shower of gore..and yet in terms of accuracy... i find the claims many make are equally ridiculous

Ya ...I concur...

I especially like the factory rifles that shoot 1/2 MOA ALL day long....no p.o.i shift as the pencil barrel heats?

I really do not care HOW a rifle groups( unless I am shooting a competition)....

I want COLD-bore single shot into the Killzone at long range.... consistently.

My favorites have always been the guys claiming that their untouched Norinco M-305 will shoot 1 moa with surplus copper wash chit ammo.

All my rifles will shoot less than 1 inch groups though

Hmm, I posted a couple 3 shot groups in another thread. It wasn't a submission for an accuracy challenge but I had no idea that wouldn't be an indication of how I'm doing with my shooting. I guess it makes sense that it would be more telling with 5 or 10 shot groups. Learn something new every day, I'm just trying to get started here. Using a bone-stock rifle and store-bought ammunition, I can sure appreciate the work and development other people put into their custom setup.
