Am I the worst shooter on the forum or the worst at story telling

If there are no powder burns on your target, then you're doing your accuracy testing incorrectly...

And I believe everything posted on the inter web, especially group sizes that throw away fliers!

Reading through lots of post and EE add and I'm noticing that everyone is easily getting 1/2MOA with their factory Mossberg and blue box ammo. I own a couple nice (expensive) rifles with Shilen or Benchmark or Rock Creek or Proof barrels with Stiller or Bighorn or Niseka actions and shoot a fair bit. But find it hard to actually get loads and barrels to consistently shoot 1/2MOA....sure I hit the odd 5shot group at 400-800 yards that measure in that range. What am I doing wrong???

Does my reloading need work or my story telling?

Advice and ridicule wanted...

I think you’re worried about what others are doing too much.

“Early to bed, early to rise. Shoot like hell and tell others on C.G.N lies.”

I think we belong in the same club. I've never posted any of my 1/2 minute groups cause I have to crop out the 3/4 - 1.5 moa groups off that target and that's just not honest. Can my 700p throw a 1/2 moa group? Absolutely! But it will be mixed in with a handful of 3/4 moa and a pile of 1+ moa groups. Some days I can't even get 1 moa out of myself and my equipment. But I could care less what the internet thinks of my shooting, I'm just here to learn and enjoy.

Nailed it on the head, lots of people just pick the cream of the crop groups. Don’t worry to much about number/groups right now as it will frustrate you. Just get out there are build on your fundamentals of shooting and you will get better.

In my training sessions, if I can produce a few 10 shot groups at moa or just under I’m doing good.

should we even open up the asking price of some items ?

I was just looking at an ad on the EE for a particular run of the mill used Rem 700 selling for $800. About an hour earlier I saw the exact rifle regular price at an online vendor for $741 new.

Wait, maybe I missed that it shot sub 1/2 moa every time with both eyes closed and one handed so maybe it's worth the ABOVE NEW price. Thanks OP, cleared up the crazy asking price mystery for me !

It is important to remember that a lot of shooters dont shoot groups all the time. Once load dev is done for me I will maybe shoot a group if switch chassis or have it out of the stock that is about it.

Also, unless it has a custom tube or is an AI/TRG/DTA or a full blown custom you are not shooting sub moa consistently.

This right here. Custom barrels are generally a requirement for consistent sub MOA.

One in the target, two over the target into the berm......then sell it to your shooting companions that it's three into a ragged hole, right?!

I find that trying to put groups on paper with rifles that can't do moa is quite frustrating. When i go to the range i usually take 4+ rifles. 1 that i am confident with (sub moa) and others to play with. If i can't get good groups out of the others, I'll move to my trusted rifle to check myself. It I'm shooting poor with it i know I'm the problem that day. It's saved quite a few dollars in useless lead down range.

Little secret. People lie on the internet.

Someone may have gotten a 1/2 moa 3 shot group once... then claimed it can do it all of the time. At times... everything lines up and you might get an absurdly tight group out of an otherwise average combo.

That is why i never posted any groups smaller than 5, and even my latest trend is towards 10 shot groups.
Hey if 3 shot groups count, i have been a sub 1/3 moa hero on a few occasions!

I will post my best looking groups but they are certainly not always that great every time. Off days, crappier ammo, hitting a june beg mid flight, wing picks up at the last second, sun got in my eyes, interference from other people, trying to sight in a crappy gun, didn't get laid that morning, etc.

But no one wants to see/show ####ty groups :d

I dissagree with this. With the right hand loads and everything els is done right, a factory barrel can deffinelty shoot consistsnt sub MOA. Not every barrel, on any brand of rifle but it can be done. My CTR with the factory barrel shot many stupid good groups. But most important it very seldom shot over 1moa, and if it did it was just over and it was my fault not the barrel. The rifle was properly bedded into a Manners with good hand loads, and in my opinion that is more important than the barrel.

Sorry, that was meant to say consistently sub 1/2 minute or even sub .75 MOA.

As we all know it is a long road from a .99 group to a .45 group.

Must have been something wrong with your sub2000. The one I had would shoot 1/4 inch center to center 100 round groups.

I shot into space once as well, hit the S in NASA on the satellite I was aiming at I still have the parts that broke off, re-entered, and landed in my back yard. Looks pretty cool.
I used my rusty old 22LR pump action to do it. Those CCI Stinger's have some zip!

Blackburbot, it must be you, I've seen your rifles and they sure do look nice but I guess money can't buy skill :p

Thanks, needed a laugh.

When are we going shooting? I'm off for 2 weeks starting Monday.

Me too, my best groups are always one shot groups.
I hit what I was aiming at the first time, I feel like I'm showing off if I do it again. :p

Man, have to check out the sub! I just left for 2 weeks, no shooting for me! Work sucks.

I know for certain my Weatherby Vanguards are defective because mine aren't nearly as accurate as all the others on CGN ! :(
