ammo for m14s

Higginson's has great prices and a good supply of the Lee brand. Lee works well for me.

Yep, I took the advice given and called higginson's. The Lee press kit seems to be the best deal going. Can't wait to go for a drive to Hawkesbury. Maybe christmas will come early.

Don't get your hopes up. They don't really have a store, just a service counter and a wall in front of their warehouse. The guy takes your order and goes to the shelves to pick it. As far as preparing ahead of time, you are better off carefully reading the catalogue and deciding which bits and pieces you want. Have an idea of some alternatives if they are out of stock. I also think you need to order ahead for the powder because they store it somewhere else.

But, they are a Canadian supplier and have been good to the sport. It is worth our while to return the favour by giving them our business.

True about the powder, but you don't really have to prepare ahead of time for parts and supplies. Tom and Andrew are well aware that a lot of people are starting out and will gladly take the time to help new reloaders get what they really need without the sales pitch or trying to sell you more than you need to start out.

Addition...

Just got back from the range with a successful test. For those of you who cast... RCBS's 165 Shilouette bullet worked out great with Red Carnuba lube. Now just have to fine-tune the load. So far... GCed, CCI Large Rifle primers with 41.5gr of H4895. Will try a bit less and a bit more and see since there was no exact load for this particular bullet. Also, the gun cycled fine and brass ejected as it should.

When I bought my M305 cheap surplus ammo was still plentiful, bt as you know this is no longer the case. My advice is to take the plunge and buy an inexpensive reloader. For a couple hundred bucks you will no longer be at the "mercy" of the market for affordable ammo. If you check out the reloading threads and do some research you'll find reloading is not as intimidating as it first appears.

Reloading is one of the biggest intimidation's ive always had. In my youth i inadvertently "doubled" up on the powder load on a batch of .38's. My uncle was a tad pissed when his .38 kicked like a mule with my loads, but he ended up feeding them in his .357 and they were fine. I never reloaded again after that, but it seems my attention span has improved...........oh look a birdy:D..... Im wondering the availability of bulk brass to start to reload rounds for the M14? I havent done any research per se but i know you fine gentlemen will point me in the right direction.......lol
