Ammo from Canadain Tire

i understand that cdn-t has deals and what have you but im sure if you go to your local firearms dealer, you will get a much better deal on your ammo. i am so dissapointed with the selection at the cdn tires that i refuse to buy ammo from there even on a sunday. last time i was there i had got one of the fellas to get me out 10 boxes of 30-30. he prompted to put it in to a bag, zip it up, and walk away. my pal didnt even leave my wallet. i just think that its places with slack security like this is giving the face of the registration program a funny look.
sorry that your post went to this tangent. but to answer your question, i cant help you with them numbers.
 
They used to stock it at the CT here but when the dealer left and the new guy showed up he stopped getting it in and he also had all of the handguns in stock chopped up at the OPP :eek: (according to the guy at the desk in the store, never did hear if that's what happened for sure... they are not there anymore though, that is for sure)

They still have a bit leftover but not much. At one point they had a pretty extensive firearms sections (at least a couple hundred rifles in stock, a couple dozen pistols and a crap ton of ammo in just about every calibre. Tons of reloading equipments/supplies too. Now it's all on sale and I doubt it will get replenished when the current stock sells out)


So I guess to answer your question the store dealer would have the authority to bring it in.

Edit: Oh and the product numbers for the ammo were store specific in this case... they were all custom order items so the product codes wouldn't be the same everywhere.

I live in Kelowna and there are two local shops that deal in ammunition. One never has stock because they have no where to store it so they only order what will fit on the shelves (I have never seen more than 3000 rounds of 9mm), and they do not order ammo often.

The other store has a heavy mark up. At last glance a 50 box of Federal White Box 9mm was going at $24 and .45acp was $36.

My only option right now is to stock up in Vernon, a neighboring town an hours drive from home. I would rather buy what I need, to supplement my reloads, when I go to the range and big ticket stores like Walmart of Canadian Tire are my only option.

P.S. As far as I know Canadian Walmarts not selling pistol ammo is a national policy.

go to canadian tire. has anyone spent less than $16/box of 9mm ammo? if so, do tell!

otherwise, just reload! you will save a lot more money that way.
 
i dont' think you can beat those prices anywhere else.

You can at least match those prices if you buy volume.I don't buy a box of .45ACP,I buy at least ten boxes or more at a time,and I get a volume discount.And I prefer to support the smaller specialty shops that actually provide customer service when it is required.

i agree with you, it's good to support them, but, I have yet to find one place where i get volume discounts on factory ammunition, at least in Calgary. The only discounts i can find is for factory reloads at my local range, or Canadian BDX.

that's when i used to buy factory ammo, now i reload so it's much cheaper.

i prefer to support whoever has the products i desire at a price that im comfortable with.

i get great service when i go to 'cambodian tire', i was at the one on 64th ave three times today for various reasons.

Canadian tire doesn't sell reloading supplies,and most don't sell firearms.They also don't handle higher end cleaning products or clothing.The smaller stores provide these items,and even if it means paying a little more to have them available locally,I will do just that.I live in a city of 100,000 where there is no place to buy reloading supplies,or better quality clothing and accessories because too many people bought all of their ammunition and supplies at places like Canadian tire,and the smaller shops could not make a living.
 
i guess it just wasn't meant to be. As for ammo, it's expensive, if i buy from my range, i'll be out of cash in no time.

Each Can-Tire is usually independently run, where I am, its the owner that has the veto or power to order said ammo. Personally I wouldn't go in and ask for "pistol" or handgun ammo, most "pistol" calibers also are shot in some rifles, go in, make nice with the owner, and tell them you have a rifle that shoots .XX caliber (Puma in 357, 44mag, Beretta CX4 in 9mm, 45acp, or whatever). That might make it easier to get what you want/need. The Can-Tire in Wetaskiwin even has basic caliber reloading dies, gunpowder, and a few other things, defiantly a gun savy owner!

And if your really stuck, spend some time in the reloading section of the site, you want cheap pistol ammo and your shooting a lot, its the only way to go.

I can not afford to pay the local shops the prices that they are asking I so don't see an issue with going to the chain store.

On items such as ammunition,I can get comparable prices by dealing in bulk.The nice part about dealing with a private business,is that the owner is free to offer volume discounts without anyone's approval.

I do reload for my centerfire rifles,but I also buy component in volume,so I get a volume discount on components as well.

If I wanted to buy volume I would not have an issue with driving to Vernon for my ammo and then this thread would not exist.

The gent that runs the Red Deer South store doesn't stock reloading supplies,but will special order in pretty much anything you want = presses, bullets,dies.etc. I got a ATI stock for a 303 brit. ordered in.

So you don't want to buy any volume,yet you expect the local CT store to maintain a stock of a certain chambering for you so that it is available whenever you need it.Stores aren't anxious to tie up shelf space unless the stock is a steady mover.They may bring it in,but if it doesn't move,they won't be reordering it.Good luck.

Unfortunately,if Canadian tire only buys small amounts from a manufacturer,even they won't get a volume discount,which means that they have to charge more.And if they buy small amounts of powder,the shipping costs are higher per volume,because of the shipping requirements.
