Ammo prices

Thanks for all the comments. Most ranges use remanufactured ammo and almost all of ours comes from Atlanta Arms, although we do a a few other suppliers. Atlanta Arms its the highest quality ammo I have ever shot. I am so confident with it that I have used practice ammo in major matches when for some reason I did not have access to match ammo.

In most cases, we offer factory ammo to our members but there may have been a few times we were short on that, especially this last year or so. We have different membership programs with different discounts but it's explained in detail when you buy a membership, there's no surprises.

It won't work for everyone, we know that, but we can't be for everyone. It works very well for a large amount of people. I believe that if it's not a good deal for you, it's not a good deal for us either so it really depends on the needs of the individual.

... we have yet to hear if it has to be their ammo in our guns. ...

Yes, i seen a guy turned away just the other day when i was there, because he brought in his pistol and wanted to use his own 9mm ammo.

I may not agree with this, as I am also very partial to certain ammo or my own loads. But hey its their shop, if the business model keeps working for them, then why not do it, I say. For all they care they can say everyone using the range must wear clown noses and no pants.

You mean its not standard at your range ?

I dont mind paying for a box or two of range ammo if I rent a range gun to use but it's a little ridiculous not to allow members to use their own ammo in their own gun.

Did you read my original post?

It's more complex that it appears. I have owned 3 commercial ranges and consulted for numerous others, but I'm still open to new ideas. Keep in mind it has to make business sense, not just something you personally like.

kanada kidd, if you require people to use only your ammo even with their guns, that's appears to be a bit too restrictive, and making you lose some income and a lot of good will towards your shop. you're not really losing out as they're still paying their entry fee and I'm going to bet that the majority of your business is the general public, those without licenses, who have no problem following the rules because that's the only way they can shoot.

What I do if people want to bring their own guns and ammo is charge for time. (By the hour) Just another way of doing things that works for me. As kanada Kidd said there are many different ways but all involve the customer paying, that's how a business is run.

Its all there on the table, nobody is ambushing you with hidden fees, and it's up for you to decide if it works for you or not

Whistler. It's an outdoor range that is not nearly as elaborate as Wild West or DVC and it's geared towards non gun owning tourists much more than gun owners. Other than binary targets I don't retail anything either.

KK, I am sorry sir, but the amount you charge for the ammo I have looked into in the store was grossly overpriced. In particular, 22LR. I understand that your model, but I am without doubt that the other ammunition sellers make money on the prices they charge. For me to walk in, looking to buy ammo and not shoot on the range, but apparently have to pay for your 'range privilege' is a deal breaker.
On a side note, I asked for a price quote on an M&P9L. I told the male employee that yes, I will buy it. I was instructed to check back in a bit, as he wasn't sure when and if it would come in. I called back, the pistol came in, I came to the store with cash in hand and the same employee tried to sell me the pistol for $115 more than he said. I replied, 'what about the price you told me about?' 'Oh I remember that but it looks like things changed.'
I am not opposed to walking in again, but can't see why or when.

maifire, that's cool, most of our complaints come from .22 ammo prices (I think it's $12 per box for non-members) But there is no where else for us to make it up on rimfire except to raise the range fees. We are at $36 for the day and I know some other ranges are over $50. It would get too complex to say shooting rimfire, you have to pay an additional charge per hour. It can be done, but I like to keep it simple and again, it won't fit for everyone.

I am not surprised with the M&P price increase, but it's out of our control. For a quote without a deposit, we can only tell you what we sold it for last time. If you put a deposit, we can source it and give you a firm price. There are still some deals on old stock here and some other shops too, it pays to check around right now.

I appreciate the specific feedback but the only reason why I did not put money down is because I was told it 'who knows when it comes in? No need to as it's something we are trying to bring in anyway.' The employee, heck maybe it was you, called someone in front of me to price it and to clarify if it was the novak sights or the night sights. In the end, I believe you were looking for feedback by leaving this post open. For what it is worth, you have mine. I left a post on the other 'related' thread. It would be nice to deal with you. I believe it's nice to support local but I am just not there with Wild West.

Your probably the guy who he was talking about that sits In a booth all day shooting .22 ammo you bought at a discount store when they first opened

Ya..... No. Wanted to spend a cold winters day inside doing load development tests for my new pistol. It's ok, for $15 I spent the day in comfort elsewhere and was allowed to recover all my brass.

The nice thing about capitalism: the free market will dictate whether he is right or wrong in his policies. Sounds like he's doing okay focusing on the newbie market and that's his right.

Aside from that, someone mentioned a range where you don't have to wear pants.

...Where do I sign up?

I'm impressed with the owner's eloquent and respectful posts and feedback.

I'll come shoot a few boxes of .22 if I ever find myself in that area of our fine Country.

ITB
