I bought a box of 30-06 FMJ the other day from a gun show. There is three different head stamps on the cartridges L C 53 , L C 5 4 , L C 7 2

Anyone know what they mean?

That is a big gap in years for the same one box of ammo isn't it? 1953, 1954 and 1972 Would this be boxed up from bulk surplus supply?

It is reman ammo, only the brass is milsurp. Lake City would have failed any with dimpled primers. Plus the primers look to be too bright to be period correct.

Best guy on this forum to ask is CanAm.

perhaps you bought some "reloads"?

Technically, no. When 30.06 was replaced by .223/5.56 as the US military battle rifle round there were likely millions of 30.06 casings that went to the civi market, or worse, scrap. Many companies bought them up at a bargain and produced loaded ammunition.

I have a box of 30.06 in my safe from a company called "Musgrave", they are soft point with LC casings.

I only keep them cuz the box is kinda cool.

So any surplus brass was reclaimed from assembled rounds? Don't want to seem obtuse, just don't know the facts.

BTW, Hi Chris!
Jim in Surrey ;)
yes, the military sells them as scrap on the condition they be destroyed (pulled-down) then the parts are reloaded into ammo.
