Ammo Woe's

I do about 500km round trip @ 15L/ckm, but NOT with current prices of gas. That comes to ca $95+. Shipping is cheaper till I get over 100# .

With the exception of guys who just don't have the resources aren't AMMO WOES just a failure to plan?

I have bought from the same retailer for the last three years. I order multiple cases in advance and just wait. I don't price shop ... it averages out and given the service I receive I'm willing to pay. On large multi case orders shipping seems to be reasonable.

If you want to hang out on your computer waiting to jump on a great deal from some one that you have no relationship with ...well, you might experience AMMO WOES.

Depending on who does the shipping, costs can be quite different over similar distances. Two different dealers, both shipping about 1800 km, shipped with very different shipping charges only two months apart. The price of the ammo at each was exactly the same.

One shipped two cases at $103, a very reasonable charge. The other shipped one case at $228.95 plus an additional shipping tax of $29.26 for a total of $$258.21. They used different shipping companies that they chose.

I paid the extra only because the dealer using more expensive shipping had a particular lot of Midas + not available anywhere else. I bought six bricks of it along with some CX. The difference between shipping six bricks and ten was negligible.

It really depends how long someone has been at it... and how much they shoot.
- When we used to be "active" shooting bullseye match, I'd usually keep 1-2 years worth of ammunition on hand...
- The club kept some ammunition on hand for members to buy... We'd usually buy 1 years worth, usually in July/August, for the following season.

The old adage to buy it cheap, stack it deep "used to" make sens... The $/availability of ammunition used to fluctuate on a 4-5 years (probably influenced by US elections)
