AN-94 already in Canada?

Its seem to me the AN-94 was a lemon

It was a good design but when it was first displayed and demonstrated, the Russians used mainly a force of conscripts so training them to service a firearm which considered much more complex than the AK-74 and also much more expensive to make wasn't an option. The Abakan trials which produced the AEK-971, the AN-94 and several other firearms did produce some decent results but again, the Russian government decided that it was just best to stay with the AK-74 as it was good enough.

The AEK-971 seems to be very good though. Barely any kick even with full auto and higher rate of fire:

As for the AN-94, it would have to be redesigned from the ground up to be a semi-auto difficult to convert to full auto. Not just a converted auto. I don't see the Russians doing that just for the sake of the Canadians arms market lol.

Technically speaking it isn't an AK so if they made a semi auto only version with the right barrel length could we not have it in canada? or is it on the named list?

I may have missed it but it doesn't appear to be on the list.

AK's and ANY variants are prohibited by name. Same goes for the Uzi and many others.

The exception was made for the CZ Vzor 58 and a couple of others because they don't have enough lineage to the original AK. I think one of the reasons they allowed the Vz. 58 was because the magazines can't be used in an AK. Also, the bolt and other components are different.

So until the OIC gets revoked, they'll still be prohibited.

The K in AK stands for Kalashnikov
The N in AN-94 is for Nikonov

It SHOULD be considered a different design.

By it's lineage, it WOULD be different becayse it doesn't have the same mechanism. Again, it would be required to construct one to be semi-auto from the ground up. Then of course the CFP would have to approve it. Also, I think the magazines might also mean something. They might still say no because the AN-94 can accept AK-74 mags. Not sure but hey, they LOVE to ban guns.
