An "honest and objective" 597 post

I have a Harris on mine (in .22WMR):

...with a Leupold VX-II 4-12x 40mm adjustable objective scope.

The rifle also has the VQ target hammer and extractor upgrades. I've probably fired well over 1000 rounds through it since getting it this past winter and have yet to experience a single FTF/FTE problem. Groups are consistently under 0.25" (10X) at 25 metres using CCI MaxiMag ammunition.

I'm more than happy with the rifle.

It scared the crap out of my girlfriend and my buddy. It seems to happen to everyone that shoots the rifle except me. I think I've pretty much had it with Remington guns, between the 597 and my 870 :bangHead:

Eagle International make them, BUT been hearing bad review on this product. A few CGNers have aready bought this mag and tried it. There was a thread about it sometime March (also look back a few pages... you might find the anwer to your question ;) :D :bangHead: :bangHead:
Anyways, the site is www(dot)eagle-international-direct(dot)com
Good luck:)

I heard the eagle mags were mostly junk. Appearently the company has fixed the problem (or so I heard) and are in the process of exchanging them for the people who got the bad ones.I have a 10/22 which I just recently purchased and I got a 597 last year. I like them both, the ruger is fun with the 25 rounders to play with. If I were going out for small game I would most likely take the 597 first b/c it's more accurate. If your just messin' around with targets and cans they are both good choices.

Funny you should say that. After doing my research and seriously considering both rifles while shopping for a semi-auto .22, the final deciding factor - all other things being reasonably equal - was how the 10/22 and 597 'felt' when I shouldered them. In my case, the 597 had a better 'feel' than the 10/22 and that's what I ended up buying.

Some factors are difficult to quantify with specs and graphs...

There's also far less temptation to "upgrade" but with the 597 there's less need to. Apart from the lawsuit trigger pull and high-cap lead slingin' mags (if that's your fancy) you shouldn't need to do much. Boy those Jard triger groups sure look purdy!... next year, next year....

I think that I'm pretty much done with mine in terms of 'upgrades' ...the only other thing that I'm going to do is slightly extend its length of pull (which is just a wee bit short for me). I've got one of these on order:

...from Pachmayr to rectify that.

Sure, it's primarily a recoil pad (for which there isn't much need on a .22WMR rifle), but it also adds to the length of the buttstock, serves to protect the toe of the butt when the rifle is resting on its bipod, and it's black and synthetic (which matches the rifle stock).

Anyone ever had a 3 shot full auto happen before, ie pull the trigger once but it fires 3 times.
How 'bout 2 shots!!
Happened to me yesterday, and when I mentioned it to the wife, she says... "oh ya, happened to me last week too." (I thought about your post right away! ;) )
Anyways... it was interesting.
Also yesterday was the first time I put Stingers through it. It loved that!
A friend is waiting on me for a recommendation. I think I'll tell him to buy a Marlin 60. Seems like it has no issues. He's also just getting back into hunting after several years away from it. I know he won't be interested in tinkering with his gun, or worrying 'bout what to feed it.

Tired looking at S.I.R? The only problem with that is the store is perpetually on "back order", which in sales means some didn't order it. That's the only place that has mini-mags and they've been out for like 2 months.

If by 'mini-mags' you're referring to 5-rounders for the Ruger Mini-14, I ordered three from them from S.I.R. about a month ago and they shipped them to me right away.

Timing is everything I guess.
