An Odd Shotgun Barrel Question

I don't see why not. Plenty of guns in the late 1800's like sniders were shot until the rifling was so bad that they had to be converted to shotguns. I don't see why it would be very hard to just bore out the old rifling if you really wanted to :) Never done it before, but I am sure someone on here has!

I've thought of doing it with a beat up .22 so I can shoot .22 shot shells at Swallows in the hangar. The rifled barrel just throws the #12 shot everywhere EXCEPT where you're aiming.

Be careful with those .22 shot shells brother. I know a guy who put some through steel roofing in a garage.

Well, that's why I want them lol. My 1200 fps pellet rifle punches neat little holes in the 40 foot ceiling. At that range I think the shot would be safer. Maybe still too much spread though.

the trick would be finding someone to thread it for chokes...
and why would you convert as opposed to just shooting shot through it?
at least that way you still have a rifled barrel, lead wont hurt it very much, and if you are worried about that just use poacher slugs

Ever tried it? The rifling spins the shot cup violently and makes the shot fling out with centrifugal force to pattern nearly 10 times bigger than a smooth bore. Worse yet, none of the shot goes in the middle where you're aiming. It makes a big giant donut pattern. (Instead of a Timbit)

Here's an example at just 7 yards:

Seen a guy do it and that's exactly what it did. At about 25 yrs there was there was a nice big untouched spot in center a mallard duck could get through. Couldn't actually believe it.

Sell the rifled barrel and buy a smooth bore? If the rifled barrel is removable they generally fetch a premium. What shotgun?

Not a Mossberg, or a Remington, lol.

It's just an idea I've been kicking around for a while, and thought I'd see if anyone had any insight. This gun was designed as a slug gun so buying a smoothbore barrel for it isn't an option outside of having a barrel custom built.
