I've been looking around for a lever action .22 and finally found something I liked. I like my guns to be a little on the different side and this one is. It's an Ithaca Model 72 Saddle Gun. They were made from 1973-79 by Erma (a divsion of Walther) in Germany after that Henry Repeating Arms took the design over and started makeing them under their name but in a cheaper version. It has an 18 1/2" barrel and is very well balanced with a smooth action. The open sights on it are pretty crude but all metal. I shot it today on the range out back after we got home with it and was able to hold groups under the size of a Loonie at 30yrds. I figure thats pretty good with sights that were on it. I can't wait to put a nice little 1.5-4.5X scope on it. I think it's going to make a great bunnie gun. Here's a pic of it.

One of my fav' lever .22s.
A good friend has one that I drool over all the time.
I was plinking grounded golf balls at 50 yards with a 4X scope on his.
Great little rifles. :)

I topped the Ithaca off today with a 1.5-4.5x32 Bushnell with the Circle-X reiticle. It makes quite a nice little small game/ plinker set up now. With the scope on it I was able to clover leaf some Remington sub-sonic stuff at 30yrds. Thats plenty accurate for what I want it for. I even had some Stingers and Yellow Jackets shooting decent out of it.

A model 72 was the first gun that I ever bought myself (at Simpson's at Devonshire Mall, TRex300!) over thirty years ago. Still have it. Smoothest lever I've ever worked, rimfire or centerfire. Never a problem and many thousands of rounds through it.

I love that gun.:)

I love it. I was out yesterday and shot a pair of Cottontails with it at just over 40yrds. Two pefect shots. Simpsons eh ??....I still remember when them and Sears still had a real sporting goods department and made it worth going to the mall. I think I'm going to start looking for a Model 72 in .22mag now. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of places that they made them in 3 versions. One that shot only .22LR (mine), one that shot short, long and LR and then a .22mag version. So if anyones knows where ther might be one.........I'm lookin'.

Happy NewYear
