I am less diplomatic, I'd kick those individuals squarely in the junk for everyone to see and call it a day, but that's me.
I am not into pistol shooting sports but did read this entire thread, it is just interesting to see the direct relation to society supposedly progressing , political correctness and the lack of balls installed on people of today.Suck it up, shrug it off, laugh it off but please be a man about it.I know 12 year old girls with more balls!
While I agree with the sentiment, people who get in an RO's face and scream like toddlers are likely to try to shoot you if you kick them in the balls....and unfortunately case law might even support them as the courts have determined that a kick to the genitals is grievous bodily harm. Violence is definitely not the way to address poor behaviour. Unfortunately Sean's assertion that the RO should have DQ'd the poorly behaved people immediately is correct, the IPSC BC decision regarding Rob is more murky. I don't necessarily agree with them, but a probation and "don't do that again" letter might have been justified. Demanding written apologies to a half dozen different destinations was unnecessary, and was designed to humiliate Rob, not educate him regarding their concern.
Getting lawyers involved probably only escalated things, however given how often I've heard Rob's name around IPSC circles, if he is approaching the "professional shooter" category, then a lawyer was probably his only viable response, and the board had really painted him into a corner by demanding the apologies. If they had simply imposed probation and left him the option of quietly accepting it without admitting fault, then he perhaps could have accepted that, by trying to force him to admit he was wrong, they played cards that weren't in their hand at the time so to speak, and lost a good shooter because of it.
Having been an amateur shooter in the company of some very elite members, and shooting with IPSC Canada President Sean Hansen, I can safely say that in Nova Scotia at least, I am not marginalized or mistreated. I believe this over reaction by the BC board was an action by a few individuals, and I certainly have seen nothing to say it reflects the values of IPSC Canada. By involving lawyers, unfortunately Rob didn't leave the IPSC BC board a way to back down without losing face either, so they were then painted in a corner the same as he had been by their initial action.
Its much the same way when two guys step outside a bar having a heated discussion. If you ever observe from a distance, you'll notice that if one party is given a way of backing down without losing face, the fight never materializes. If there is no way to avoid the fight without admitting the other guy is right, then the fight almost always happens, even if one party is clearly physically superior. Unfortunately the further this situation goes, the less likely anyone will win, either IPSC or Rob.
