I wanted to remember my 1000th post, so I polled you guys for ideas of what to post for my 1000th www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101427, and I choose "A Mindless Rant" in the form of a "Top 10 things that bug me on Gun Forums (but don’t keep me awake)". Since I waste most of my time in the Milsurp forum, I thought I’d post here. Thank you and please forgive me in advance.
- Milsurp Myths about Safety - I am convinced that almost no-one has the ability to think for themselves, and that almost no original "research" been done since Ackley in the 50’s. Here we have a picture of an ugly Hillbilly known as "Jimmy Earl" (see below). A bad Carcano injured Jimmy, which are "only good for display and being made into lamps". We know that because Jimmy is the cousin of someone's friend who works at Century and the guy knows what he’s talking about. Forget that I have proof tested several Carcanos to 100K+ psi (even the dreaded "Cooey" Carcano) and they have stayed together nicely
[*]Bubbas – first off, I don’t care what you do with your money. Just don’t post a pic of a bubba (which is no longer a milsurp, but a collection of milsurp parts) in a milsurp forum and expect nothing but praise. Remember that $400 + $300 = $300 in the world of bubba finances. duh
[*]Owners of Improved Cartridges (Ackley, Gibbs, etc.) - listen up you twits, the 30 Gibbs is not the equal of the 300 Win Mag. Just because you were clever enough to pack enough powder into your 30 Gibbs or 30/06 AI to beat factory 300 Win Mag velocities does not make it its equal. Larger case volume for the same bore size always means more velocity for a given bullet weight at the same pressure.
[*]Wildcatters – these guys can be insufferable (and I am one). Change a shoulder angle by 5 degrees, shorten the neck by 0.100" and blow the shoulder out by 0.030" and your genius has just invented something the world has been waiting for. Here’s a newsflash – it’s all been done before, and there are no holes to fill. If you want to do it for the fun of it, or to learn something, fine, but to be honest, it’s mostly for the sake of vanity. Dang, in the time it took me to write this, I could have invented a Wildcat. P.S. unless you have shot it, it doesn’t exist – paper exercises don’t count.
[*]Owners of the "Best" Cartridge – just a case in point (and there are many others), the 9.3x62. "Every bit as good as the 375 H7H which has much greater capacity and a larger bore size, but much better than the 35 Whelen to which it is much closer". Shake your head guys. A bit of chauvinism is healthy, but really they’re all good, and we only really "need" about 10 rounds to cover off every conceivable situation. - Anyone who says "Kicks like a Mule" or "Hits Like the Hammer of Thor" – please stop. Especially to those fairies that think that the Jungle Carbine has vicous recoil. Shoot a 378 Weatherby from the bench then get back to me.
[*]Guys with Imaginary Gun Collections – see # 8
[*]Snobs and Liars – "I use a 22 Hornet on Moose because I am so good that I only take eye shots"; or "I regularly take deer at 600 yds. My 300 RUM shoots flat to 1000 yds, I just hold a couple inches high". At least learn to lie well guys.
[*]Milshoot Crap – I would never criticize anyone organizing a Blackpowder shoot for excluding Smokeless, nor would I expect a 1000 yd shoot to include a 100 yd segment. If you don’t like the rules, organize your own shoot where your POS bubba will feel at home; and - Liberals and NDP – #$(*!#$@^%!
