You have got to be kidding... that is the kind of retarded statement that the antis love. If the FAT lady in question had a tag for the Cow then there is absolutely no doubt that there are enough Cow Moose in that area to sustain a huntable population. There is absolutely no doubt that the tag in question should be filled. And there is absolutely no doubt that whether or not the calf Moose is orphaned has been figured in to the equation by the biologists who manage the Moose herd.
Also there is absolutely no doubt that you are a Math Genius... naught, naught carry the naught...

BR, I think you have been living in the "Land of antis" a bit too long as you seem to be confusing fellow hunter/conservationist brethren with that huge group in your province that wear foggy rose specs.

Instead of accusing others of being "retarded", maybe you should take advantage of your tax dollars by consulting with a Ministry moose biologist cow calf/bull relationships.

... and yes I have shot cows with a calf myself.

A guy from a province with a not too healthy moose population.

You need to reread my post... I called your statement retarded not you!
Your latest statement is no better... your statement is clearly anti hunting if you argue that a legally taken Moose is killing four potential Moose.
Sorry pal but that is not a hunter talking... My partner is an MNR biologist who Managed the Moose draw here for a number of years. I know what I am talking about... if your worried about killing a Cow don't purchase a tag... and don't critisize another hunter for cutting his or hers! ;)

Shooting a cow and leaving the calf... only a 50% chance of the calf making the winter on it's own... plus the cow in question was likely already bred, therefore her fetus...or two are obviously dead as well. Now we have a dead cow, likely her calf and one or two of next springs calfs dead as well. My math is as bad as my grammar but in my books thats possibly 4 dead moose with one shot.

Moose management 101 dudes!

Great math:rolleyes: how about this math...as decided by the tag system
1 cow tag per group=====1 cow ...or...
if you prefer not to shoot a cow NO MEAT!

I don't know what the rules are in MB for moose hunting but here in Ont IF you get a cow tag in the draw your DAMM lucky! I also don't know what the rules are where-ever this deal happened but I can only assume it was legal to shoot the cow as decided by MNR or powers to be in that province. I have moose hunted for more years than I care to remember & have NEVER had a bull tag & now some-one thinks you shouldn't shoot a cow because baby is with it  SORRY buts it's probably not our choice! You shoot what you have a tag for !

++ here in Ont any-one that got a chance for a cow would take the calf 99/100 times as well because party hunting for calfs is also legal.

I have always believed you should leave the cows but you only play the cards (or licences) your dealt with.

there is nothing wrong with the cow being taken if it was legal...everyone has their own opinion on this but there is a big chance the calf wouldnt have made it through the winter anyways....also the calf may meet up with a dry cow or a cow that lost its calf to hunters/bears/natural causes or a cow with a calf.

I personally would always shoot the calf first then the cow if we had a tag for the cow, or if we had a bull and I shot a calf would we really need all that meat?

I was taught ( just recently firearms safety course ) that we as hunters are looking after our enviroment. We are given tags in certain areas to hunt these critters ! Period! Reason being .. over populated??

i dont care we got the calf tonight thanks for some peoples concern and no thanks to the people who shouldnt have said anything

I have only been here a few weeks and I allready see your an idiot.... if the lady harvested a legal animal in a legal manner you have nothing to complain about. PERIOD !

wolves and coyotes have to eat too....

If they didn't want cows shot they wouldn't issue "Cow Tags", and here in Ontario everyone who doesn't get an adult tag, gets a calf tag. that's almost 80,000 calf tags being issued. So kill'em both, but not with one shot;)
