Who has a similar problem with their modern sporter receiver set that they were able to fix and how did you do it?

I soaked mine in oil for over 30hrs and then dried it off which left me with little to no change in appearance.

I had a first run upper and lower (serial number under 100) and they were matched, dark and more of sheen like your FA upper. I have new second run upper and lower (serial number over 800) and the lower is more dull, like yours. I suspect that after machining all the FA uppers, when they switched to machining the second run of lowers, they changed either the surface prep prior to ano, or switched to a different finisher.

Point to note, the second run lowers have some design improvements over the first, so I’ll take the mismatched finish.

I have a set from the first run that matches perfect but it’s all beat up from shooting the piss out of it...

If my next set from the second run isn’t a perfect match I will be extremely disappointed with the appearance... or I’ll just shoot the piss out of that one also...

Definitely looks like a pretty big difference in the anodizing batches. The upper looks like my ATRS lower (almost shiny like a Type2 anodizing) and the lower looks like XM177 grey anodized. Either colour wouldn't bother me, except that they're not matched :x

Aside from paint them, i don't think anything can be done to change it, maybe see if some other guy got the opposite set that you did and do a tradsie?

I put a WTT ad on the ee for exactly that. I didn't pay a premium price for a quality receiver set to get forced in to a rattle can job

Hardcoat anodizing does not use a post anodizing dye application to colour the metal like regular Type 1 anodizing. The colour comes from the actual anodizing process and varies from grey to black. There are a miriad of factors that affect the colour; material properties, anodizing bath composition, age of anodizing bath, or many other small changes in the anodizing process. The simple fact of the materials used being from two different mill runs can cause colour differences.

For this reason, a lot of manufacturers do an after hard cost anodizing cosmetic colouring process, such as black oxide.

This is a cosmetic issue. Stop being a baby and shoot your gun.

We’re not talking about a $200 AR15 upper/lower set here. For $1000, it damn well better be matching.

Who is crying? I simply want what others received at the same price point.

Would you accept paying full price and being stuck with a receiver set with a "cosmetic issue" as you say?

Would a vendor sell this receiver set as part of a complete build? Not likely. Would you purchase a new premium priced vehicle with panels that dont match? It is only cosmetic after all.......

While I agree it is purely cosmetic, at the price point that these sell for the buyer should get a matching paint job.

Agreed....I have cheap upper and lowers that don't match but wasn't expecting much for what I paid. If i paid 1k and over I would expect them to match nicely. I think itis a valid complaint.

I’m sure anyone that gets one that doesn’t match and wants to sell there set at cost will have zero problem as some people are more concerned with shooting their rifles than looking at them lol.

I agree that for the wait period and price, I'd expect the receivers to match.

That being said, considering the wait, I'd honestly attempt to sort it out through trading with someone else. Perhaps try to find someone who is getting theirs Cerakoted or will end up with a rattle can paint job, they may be willing to trade and not care about the mismatch.

The light lower is the newest batch, I have not seen any light colored uppers yet. I bet the next batch of uppers matches my lower as something in the process had to have changed to create such an extreme variance
