Another 9.3X62 bear, now with recovered bullet picture.

Why not?

All the discussion about the 9.3X62 just got to me, so we headed out for just one day on a river trip for moose. It was the last day of moose hunting season yesterday, the 31st, but we found this guy out for a stroll.

A single 270 gr Matrix right behind the shoulder did the trick just fine. One shot at about 60 yd, and he was down for the count.

His head is all scarred up and lips were torn from days gone by. Really old bear, some of the teeth are worn to the gums.

How would you like to have these toenails to trim?

Made coffee for my sweetheart early this morning.....

Thanks! It was cold, but we had a great time!

Stalking this bear was very exciting. We spotted him from almost a mile away, and shot him at about sixty yards. At one point, he was less than 30 yd, but lightly screened by willows and alders. Just didn't want to take a chance at such a great bear shooting through that stuff.

Ted; Your pics truly show what hunting is all about.
Spending the time with your wife just adds to the experience, IMHO.
Beautiful bear, BTW. Congratulations.
Did you see any moose?
Regards, Eagleye

Ya, but I don't know where to find any. :D

Here's a picture of a guy in Carmacks holding a front paw after we got back and loaded the canoe onto the trailer.

Just at eight inches across.

Congrats Ted! That is a very nice bear, and I too love reading your stories. I am also happy for you that you could spend that time with your wife.

Enjoyed the pics, the story, and your big smiles. Thank you and blessings to you and your wife. The 9.3x62 sure proved its worth when used by an experienced hunter.
